Can the Cleveland Cavaliers level the series 1-1 when game 2 of the NBA Finals gets underway on Saturday. Find out as we preview the NBA odds and serve up our NBA picks.
Cavaliers Down 0-1
The Cleveland Cavaliers are down 0-1 in the NBA finals, despite a heroic effort in game 1 and going into overtime. Game 2 is set to get underway on Sunday and the Cavaliers will look to bounce back before the series heads to Cleveland. Can they pull off the feat?
As it is, the NBA odds are severely stacked against the Cavaliers. Matched at +280 NBA odds to win outright or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook, odds makers aren't putting much stock in the Cavs coming back on the road. Yet, if game 1 were any indication, NBA bettors might well fancy the Cavs even with these disingenuous long shot NBA odds to beat the Warriors at the Oracle Arena. One word: X-factor. In other words: LeBron James.
Game 1 was back-and-forth action between two of the best teams in the NBA this season, fittingly hotly contested both on the court and the scoreboard and had NBA bettors sat on the edge of their seats. LeBron James deposited a monster 44-point account and helped the Cavs race to a 14-point lead before the Warriors somehow rallied and eventually took the 108-100 win – a result that saw the Warriors both win and cover the 6-point closing spread and crack the 204 total for OVER bettors.
LeBron James missed a long jumper in regulation that could have given the Cavs the win in game 1 as the road underdogs. In overtime, they were more unlucky as they missed eight shots in a row. However, the worst bit of news for the Cavs is that they not only lost game 1 but also it seems Kyrie Irving, who busted his knee in overtime. The loss of Irving is another blow to the Cavs' roster after already losing Kevin Love. Irving scored 23 points on 10 of 22 shooting and had six assists and seven rebounds.
That said it's the NBA Finals. LeBron James and Company are sure to come out with an intensity and purpose on Sunday, no matter who suits up. The Cavs have won six of their eight road games in the postseason and are 4-4 ATS.
Golden State Warriors Look To Go Up 2-0
Where the Golden State Warriors have the edge over Cleveland Cavaliers is completeness. Their wins are a complete team effort with MVP Stephen Curry getting support from all channels. Curry had 26 points and eight assists, Thompson had 21 points and Iguodala had 15 points, to name a few.
In beating the Cavs, the Warriors improved to an incredible 47-3 on the season at home. To date, the only side to take an away win at the Oracle was Memphis when they shocked the Warriors 97-90 in game 2. They are 4-5 ATS at home in the postseason and 8-1 SU.
Given their solid account in the NBA playoffs, it's no surprise that they have the NBA betting markets cornered for game 2 at -360 NBA odds and 8-points against the spread or thereabouts depending on your sportsbook of choice. It's worth noting, however, that the NBA lines opened anywhere between 5.5 to 6.5 but have been bet up to the 7.5-to-8-point mark now.
NBA Betting Verdict
Just as game 1 was tight, public opinion is also quite tight. Consensus betting reveals that 56% of the public is on Golden State to win outright while 44% are banking on the Cavs upsetting the Warriors at home. As well, 52% of public money is coming down on the Warriors to cover while just 48% of the money is on the Cavs covering. Clearly, this game could go either way. Our choice NBA pick is the Cavs at +8.0. You can find that bet trading at most sportsbooks right now at -110 NBA odds, so head on to your choice sportsbook or go to 5Dimes.
