They might crank it up in the playoffs, but put the ‘under’ in your NBA picks for Wednesday’s game between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets have both made the ‘under’ a healthy NBA pick for a while now; it’s on a five-game winning streak for Golden State, and 7-3 for the Rockets in their last 10. So yeah, we’re going to stick with the program for Wednesday’s game in Houston – especially now that Kevin Durant (plus-4.1 OBPM, minus-0.2 DBPM) has been ruled out with a right ankle contusion. Gotta be KD? Not this time.

G’Day, Bruce

Since these regular-season games are basically meaningless, maybe it’s not so bad for the Warriors that their second-best offensive player is taking the night off. Durant has played more than anyone on the team, 65 games at 35.4 minutes per game. Save some of that for the playoffs. His status for Wednesday’s game is late-breaking news as we write this, so the NBA odds have yet to come out, but we’re counting on the betting market to overlook his absence and give us another ridiculously high total for the Dubs.

In an ideal world, Andrew Bogut would choose this game to start his second tour of duty in Golden State. Alas, the big man is stuck in visa hell and isn’t expected to play until the Warriors come back from this four-game road trip next Thursday. Bogut is 34 years old now, and coming off a season playing for the Sydney Kings in his native Australia, but even during last year’s short stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bogut posted a plus-3.6 DBPM – matching his minus-3.6 OBPM. Keep an eye on his progress in Oakland, if you like money.

Licensed To Ill

No injury concerns for the Rockets, who are primed for another deep run in the Western Conference playoffs. They’ve won nine straight games at 5-3-1 ATS, starting with their 118-112 victory over Golden State (–12 at home, Under 231.5) on February 23, when James Harden (plus-10.2 OBPM, plus-0.7 DBPM) was kept out of the lineup with an undisclosed illness. Hmmm. You could certainly consider Houston against the spread here, but if the oddsmakers had the total at 231.5 with Harden out, surely it will be even higher sans Durant.

Neither team is in a back-to-back situation in this game, which doesn’t help us much, but there’s always the chance one of both of them will keep a star player under wraps for “load management” – or just to mess with each other’s heads. We’ll settle for Durant missing this contest; bet accordingly, and may the sphere be with you.
