The Celtics are the hottest team in the NBA coming off their win against the Warriors, and now they are on the road against the Hawks on Saturday night. The NBA Odds have the C’s favored by -6 ½, which smells somewhat funny considering the hefty run Boston has been making.

Celtics vs. Hawks

The Hawks have had a couple days off since their blowout win over the Kings, but even though that win was impressive, the Kings might be the worst team in the NBA. I expect a well-coached team like the Hawks to blowout the Kings at home, and tonight they could also give the Celtics a run for their money.

It all depends on the status of a couple of Hawks forwards. Luke Babbitt and Mike Muscala are both questionable tonight, and if they can play, their shooting and floor spacing should help the Hawks’ pick and roll game.

Neither of these guys makes a huge difference, but their roles are still well defined on the Hawks. The biggest thing for Atlanta in this one will be stopping Kyrie Irving, and I expect Dennis Schroder to be on his A-game tonight as the Hawks try to snap the league’s longest winning streak.

As tempted as I am to take the points with Atlanta, or even tease them up to double-figure underdogs, I think the better play is the first half total. Both of these teams are playing at paces of over 100 per game in the first half, and if both teams are hitting shots early the first half total of 97 ½ is a nice over play.

The first time these two met earlier this month, the halftime score was 54-54. Their last three meetings would have cashed this first half total, and I am going for at least 98 combined with them on Saturday for my NBA picks.
