Heat vs. Nets Game 3
The Heat’s defense showed up huge again in Game 2 of this series, as they have now held Brooklyn to under 90 points in two straight games, and take a 2-0 series lead on the road with them into Brooklyn. The NBA Odds have the Heat as slight -1 favorites on the road here, with a total of 189.
We easily cashed the under in the second game of this series, and now the total has dropped three full points down to 189 as the two teams head into New York. Even with the lower total, I think these two teams can cash the under for us another time. Miami’s defense is playing outstanding right now, and with the Nets matching up and going small with the Heat, it makes it that much easier for them to defend Brooklyn.
It’s not one sided however. The Nets played very good defense for the first 43 minutes of Game 2, and if it wasn’t for a huge outburst by the Heat late in that game to pull away, the Nets might have given themselves a shot to win at the end. I’m sure Brooklyn’s defense will show up at home, and it that’s truly the case, even with the total three points lower, I think the under could be the play once again.
My Pick: UNDER 189
Spurs vs. Blazers Game 3
The Spurs are also up 2-0 heading on the road, although their two wins were even more impressive than the Heat’s multiple victories. The NBA Odds also have the Spurs as road favorites of -1 ½, with a total of 209 points. Even though we have seen tow straight blowouts, and even though we cashed the over in both games, the Spurs defense almost made it so we did not cash. Now heading into Portland, I doubt the Spurs drop 115 points, and Portland’s defense should improve at home.
Now that the total is up four full points from where it opened for Game 1, now might be the time to switch to the under to continue our hot streak handicapping this series. Even with two straight overs in this series, as long as Portland plays solid defense at home, the total for this game should go under.
The most surprising thing about this series has been the terrific defensive effort from the Spurs. Kawhi Leonard is quickly becoming the fourth super star in San Antonio, and his defense, along with his consistent offense has been a big reason why the Spurs are where they at in this series. After going seven games against the Mavs, the Spurs are going to want to shorten this series as much as possible now with a 2-0 lead, and their defensive intensity will be just as good on the road Saturday as it’s been in the first two games. Take the under for your NBA picks.
My Pick: UNDER 209
