Up Tempo Phoenix With A Solid Chance To Pull Small Upset Versus Grizzlies

When Memphis travels to take on Phoenix we will have a battle of two contrasting styles. Despite being on the road odds makers have made the Grizzlies a small favorite in this spot. Can Phoenix and their up-tempo offense keep this game interesting?

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis is coming off a big win in Utah but now they face a team with a completely different style in Phoenix. Currently, they are averaging just 99.9 points per game which rank them 26th in the NBA and on closer look at their offensive statistics they are one of the poorer shooting teams in the NBA. Along with a really slow tempo of just 84.2 attempts per game, Memphis is shooting just 42.9% from the field and 46.5% on their two-point shots both of which rank them dead last in the league. It is on the other side of the ball where they have had solid success with their veteran core and currently they rank as one of the better defensive teams in the NBA. The Grizzlies are allowing just 43.7% overall shooting from opponents as well as allowing just 34.1% from distance both of which rank third in the league. Compared to their competition tonight they go at a snail’s pace but being on the road I think they might get caught up a little bit in the tempo which could hurt them. Although they allow just 34.4 field goals made per game, ranking first in the NBA, I think Phoenix is going to be able to score tonight at home.

 Phoenix Suns

Phoenix is coming off back to back losses to the Denver Nuggets in an away from home scenario. Offensively they have been decent this year averaging 106.6 points per game which rank 11th in the league and averaging 39.4 field goals made for the game which ranks them ninth. They rank third in the amount of attempts per game but their offensive statistics are less than stellar. Currently, Phoenix is shooting just 45% from the field which ranks them 19th in the NBA but I do like how they match up with Memphis and believe they’ll be able to score some points tonight. Defensively they have really struggled this season and rank in the bottom third of the league in most defensive categories. Although both teams have a different head coach they have essentially the same personnel and Phoenix split with Memphis last season going 2-2. I see no reason for them not to stay within the number or perhaps pull off the small upset.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have come out making Phoenix a +3 underdog and for my NBA pick, I will back them getting the points. With superior guard play, I like for the Suns to at least take this game to the wire.
