It makes sense sometimes for the lower-tiered teams in the NBA to be big underdogs, but Friday I think there is value in backing a couple of those teams: Chicago travels to take on Boston, and Atlanta visits Washington.

The Celtics just got crushed at Toronto and they look to bounce back Friday. For my NBA pick I will go ahead and grab the points because I think this is just simply too many to give when Boston has struggled to score at times the past few weeks. Despite Chicago’s poor play over the season, especially the past month, in their last three games they’re averaging 107.7 points per game and allowing just 96.7. In that stretch, they have shot a solid 45% from the floor and an outstanding 43% from distance compared with Boston hitting at a 42.2% and lowly 27.4%, respectively. The Bulls also come in winning all those games, so they should have some confidence to keep this game to single digits. Although they lost by double digits to Boston just last month, I expect for them to come in and make this interesting.

This is a tough spot for Washington considering they just played Cleveland on Thursday and blew a sure win. For my NBA pick, I will gladly take the points with Atlanta because despite their poor showing recently they are keeping games relatively close. Except for a blowout against Miami in their last game, in their previous four contests Atlanta stayed within this number and pulled off one win vs. Orlando. Although the Hawks have played less than stellar basketball, their numbers are not horrific across the board ranking in the middle the league in shooting efficiency and just outside the first half of the league in most defensive categories. The Wizards are in a tricky spot here and defensively they have been nowhere close to a lockdown type in allowing opponents to shoot over 46% overall and 52.3% on their two-point shots, an area in which Atlanta thrives. As well, Washington is averaging just 85.4 attempts per game while allowing just 84.6, which sets up for a pretty slow tempo affair. Washington should definitely win this game but don’t be shocked for Atlanta to make this a little uncomfortable.
