This week's column explains why the Heat and the Pelicans will be tough to beat on Friday. Read on to get the insider's NBA picks on all the action.

Heat vs. Raptors

The Heat snapped a two-game losing streak with a huge 112-99 road win over the Hornets last Wednesday. Goran Dragic led the way with 33 points and James Johnson added 26 points on 10 of 12 shooting, including 6 of 7 from beyond the arc. The Heat are now 27-10 since January 13 and they're tied with the Pacers for 8th place in the Eastern Conference, so every game from now on is extremely important for them.

The Raptors came back from 25 down to beat the Pistons 105-102 in Detroit last Wednesday. Kyle Lowry finished with 27 points and 10 assists in his return from a wrist injury and Toronto is now in 3rd place in the East, 3.5 games behind the Cavaliers. Lowry's return makes them a completely different team but the Heat are 24-15 ATS in road games and 29-19 ATS against Eastern Conference opponents and they need this game more.

Goran Dragic is averaging 27.5 points and 5.0 assists in two games this month and the Heat are 11-5 when he scores at least 25 points this season and 4-1 when he makes at least five 3-pointers. I like the Heat at +5.5 NBA odds behind Dragic's play. The Raptors may win this one but the Heat will keep it close.

Pelicans vs. Nuggets

These two teams met on Tuesday and the Nuggets escaped with a 134-131 road victory, eliminating the Pelicans from playoff contention and now they're just one game behind the Trail Blazers for eight place in the Western Conference standings. Danilo Gallinari finished with 28 points against the Pelicans and  Gary Harris added 23 points and a key steal in the end.

Anthony Davis had 41 points and four blocks against the Nuggets and DeMarcus Cousins finished with 30 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists. The Pelicans are better than what their record suggests, the Anthony Davis-DeMarcus Cousins duo has been unstoppable and it's only a matter of time before it translates into more victories. The Nuggets are running out of time to secure a playoff spot and that kind of pressure will get to them because they're a very young team. Also, they're just 16-20-1 ATS after a straight up win and this will be another close, high-scoring contest. I'm adding the Pelicans +6.5 to my NBA picks.
