Los Angeles Sparks vs. Atlanta Dream
The Sparks, fresh off a triple-overtime road loss to Washington, have had only one full day of rest as they get set to tangle with the Dream in Atlanta.
Current WNBA odds have Los Angeles once again as the favorites, this time by three points. The O/U is holding steady at 153.5.
It was certainly a thrilling game between the Sparks and Mystics, but ultimately Candace Parker and company couldn't make enough plays in the third overtime and would fall 84-92. As a team Los Angeles shot just 33.0 percent overall.
Parker was excellent again, scoring 32 points with 12 rebounds, six assists and six steals in the losing effort. Nneka Ogwumike added 16 points, 12 boards and four steals, but Alana Beard and Lindsey Harding were a combined 8-of-33 for a total of 22 points in the defeat.
The Sparks will be hoping to be more efficient offensively against an Atlanta team that's lost three of its last four. The Dream were also in action on Sunday, losing by nine on the road to Connecticut.
Tonight we think Atlanta could be in for another long night, despite being at home. The Dream are perhaps overly reliant on Angel McCoughtry, as we saw when they lost to the young Sun on Sunday. The guard was just 2-of-14 for seven points.
Atlanta has also been one of the worst defensive teams in the WNBA so far this season and that bodes well for Parker, Beard and the rest of the Sparks. We think they'll bounce back from this past weekend's tough loss to win rather comfortably. Add Los Angeles as the favorites with your sports picks.
WNBA Pick: Sparks -3
Seattle Storm vs. Phoenix Mercury
The Mercury have opened the 2014 season by winning three of their first four games, with two of those victories coming in blowout fashion.
In the opener, Phoenix crushed this same Seattle team 81-64 at home, which was followed by an impressive road win (74-69) over Los Angeles. After losing by four at home to San Antonio, the Mercury then took out their frustrations on Tulsa, beating them 100-78 at home a week later.
Now the Mercury are matched up with the Storm again, with the sports betting lines releasing a humungous spread to the public. Phoenix is favored by as many as 10.5 points at some of the sportsbooks we've glanced over.
It's not too surprising. Seattle may have earned a hard-fought 62-60 win over Tulsa in their most recent action, but they've still struggled for the most part this season. The Storm are 2-5 on the year and have been the WNBA's worst offensive team, scoring only 66.3 points per game.
It's been quite the opposite for the Mercury, who have poured in 82.3 PPG thus far. Diana Taurasi (17.3 PPG, 4.8 APG and 3.8 RPG) has been orchestrating, but Brittney Griner and DeWanna Bonner have been instrumental to the team's success so far too.
Thing is, Phoenix has also been good on the other end of the floor, holding opponents to 72.3 PPG through their first four contests. With that kind of balance, do you really blame us for thinking the home team is the play tonight?
Phoenix simply has too many offensive weapons and we wouldn't be surprised to see them cruise to another blowout victory here. It may be a lot of points to take on, but we recommend backing the Mercury as massive favorites on their home court.
WNBA Pick: Mercury -10.5
