Tuesday NBA Picks of the Day

The NBA Odds are back up on Tuesday night, and even on a shorter card, there is still value to be had. With four games on tap tonight, I have found two that I see as great value plays.

Knicks vs. Bobcats

After playing a tough game last night at home against the Suns, the Knicks head on the road tonight to play the Bobcats in Charlotte. The NBA Odds have the Cats as -1 favorites, with a total of 186 points in the early odds. Even though the Knicks are 5-3 ATS this season with no rest, I see them tiring out tonight after an overtime game on Monday night.

Carmelo Anthony played 46 minutes, while Raymond Felton played 44 in last night’s win. For a veteran team in the dog days of January, the Knicks are going to be exhausted tonight, and I see the Cats taking advantage.

Another big nugget of news is the health of Tyson Chandler. The Knicks’ big man has missed the last few games with an upper respiratory infection, and he is questionable at best tonight against Charlotte. If he is unable to play, Al Jefferson should have a monster game down low, and it could lead the Cats to the win. However even if he does play, this illness has to have left him weak.

The Knicks rank 3rd in the NBA in defending opposing centers when Chandler is on the floor, however without him, New York is forced to go small with Andrea Bargnani at the center. This will not be a very good look for Bargnani on the defensive end tonight, and even if Amare Stoudemire comes in and gives them some solid minutes, off of a back to back, his minutes will be watched very closely.

The Cats have had two full days off for rest before tonight and should be fired up on the defensive end. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist also looks like he is set to make his return tonight after being out over the last three weeks, and although he gives only modest offensive numbers, his defense on Anthony tonight will be key. I’m on the Cats for our free NBA picks.

NBA Pick: Bobcats -1

Cavs vs. Lakers

For only the fourth time this season, the Cavaliers are road favorites in a game, and it’s all the way over on the west coast. The NBA Odds have the Lakers as +3 ½ underdogs tonight, with a total of 202 ½. So far this season, the Cavs are 0-3 ATS as road favorites, and even with Luol Deng now in the fold, the Cavs don’t seem drastically improved on defense.

Sure they are 2-1 SU since the trade, but since he is the only member of their starting five that plays great defense, it really limits Cleveland’s upside defensively. Since the trade, the Cavs have given up 106 points per game, including a huge blowout loss to the Kings where they gave up 124 points.

The Lakers defense will likely not put up much of an effort tonight either, and that is why I’m baffled this total is so low. In their last ten games, the Lakers have given up 111 points per game, which is on the verge of horrific defensively. So with neither team playing much defense on one another, it seems as if 202 ½ is asking us for an over bet.

The Cavs are giving up over 103 points per game on the road this season, and with Deng in the mix tonight, he will help them as much on offense to balance out his stellar defense.

NBA Pick: OVER 202 ½
