The Pistons are not currently in the playoff race in a weakened Eastern Conference, but they are not very far behind and performances like Monday against the Denver Nuggets is what’s keeping them in the hunt. Detroit outscored Denver 129-103 and really dominated one of the best teams in the NBA from start to finish.

Two days after blowing a 25-point lead and losing to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Pistons set season highs Monday by shooting 54.5 percent and handing out 32 assists. They moved within 1.5 games of the eighth-place Miami Heat in the East.

New York is looking to end a stretch of poor play that has resulted in 26 losses in the past 28 games overall. The Knicks' only wins since Dec. 1 are a 126-124 overtime decision at Charlotte on Dec. 14 and a 119-112 road victory over the Lakers on Jan. 4.

New York has the 14th-worst skid in NBA history of at least 14 home losses; the league record of 19 consecutive home defeats was set by the 1993-94 Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks' overall losing skid, the third-longest in team history, continued Sunday with a 96-84 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Sunday marked the sixth straight game the Knicks were held to less than 100 points, and New York shot just 38.4 percent from the floor.

The Knicks will be playing the second game with their new cast of characters in DeAndre Jordan and Dennis Smith Jr., who electrified the Madison Square Garden crowd with alley-oops and dunks. At just 8-14-2 ATS at home on the season, the Knicks are one of the worst teams at covering as hosts and the Pistons should be able to keep that trend going.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Halftime on #NBA League Pass: #MileHighBasketball 55#DetroitBasketball 68

Andre Drummond: 13 PTS (6/7 FG)
Blake Griffin: 12 PTS, 5 REB, 4 AST
Nikola Jokic: 14 PTS, 4 AST
Monte Morris: 11 PTS (5/7 FG) pic.twitter.com/GyJbcyyqsK
— NBA (@NBA) February 5, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Miami (24-27 SU, 26-25 ATS) at Portland (32-20 SU, 29-23 ATS)

Tuesday, 10:30 p.m. ET

Free NBA Pick: Trail Blazers ATS

Best Line Offered: JustBet

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3569522, "sportsbooksIds":[1275,19,238,169,139], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

This game is a homecoming of sorts for Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, who grew up in the Portland area and is the son of former Blazers executive Jon Spoelstra.

Entering Tuesday night's matchup with the Heat in Portland, the Trail Blazers have won three games in a row and six of their last seven. Portland is riding an eight-game home win streak and stands in fourth place in the Western Conference.

"I really respect what they've done this year," said Erik Spoelstra, whose club is kicking off a six-game road trip. "Coach (Terry) Stotts has done a tremendous job with that group. The resilience they've shown to come back this year with the same group after a disappointing playoff (result) last year ... it's not easy."

The Blazers have looked like a team that is ready to pick up with where they left off at the end of last season when a healthy Jusuf Nurkic completely changed that team. Nurkic allows the Blazers to run more pick-and-roll action with their two dynamic guards, and the fact that Nurkic is a proficient passer allows for them to master dribble handoffs between CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard.

Portland is establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned in the Western Conference because of their superb guard tandem. Lillard and McCollum are two of the most dynamic playmaking guards in the league and they have developed a system with Nurkic in which they are attacking teams downhill and getting to the rim, while also still being able to step back and shoot jump shots when necessary.

Portland opened as -7 favorites against the Heat and will be looking to upset Dwyane Wade’s farewell tour. This is the second and final game of the series against the Heat this year; the Blazers lost the first contest, 120-111, but in Portland’s favor tonight will be their 19-10 record ATS at home.
