Charlotte is almost toast this season, while Brooklyn is just playing for pride. Playing against one another this late in the season, the first half could look more like an exhibition game.

To give the Nets some credit, they have played tough all season with little to no talent. Other than D’Angelo Russell (hurt for most of the season) and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, this team is a mixture of unproven young guys and over-compensated veterans. There isn’t much to build on this season, and without a first-round draft pick they somehow have found a way to win 23 games SU and 40 ATS.

They have done this with pace, and there is no better place than Barclays Center to use your NBA picks on the "over" in the first half of a Nets home game. Brooklyn is averaging 61.8 points per first half over their last five games, and only one of those was on the road, where they dropped 58 first-half points.

Since the All-Star break the Nets have played five home games. In each first half, they have an offensive and defensive rating of more than 119 points per 100 possessions.

Look at Brooklyn's most recent game, against Memphis, as an example:

Brooklyn tries to run as much as possible, and they have been very good in transition with all of their shooters. Against a team such as Charlotte that also can run, this game might turn into an up-and-down tempo battle between Russell and Kemba Walker.

The Hornets have been good on offense and equally bad on defense away from home since the break. Charlotte has played eight road games since the break, allowing the fifth-most points per 100 possessions and scoring the fourth-most points among road teams during that stretch.

It’s a perfect storm brewing in this one so take advantage of the number on the NBA odds board. I expect one or both teams at 60-plus first-half points tonight.
