Gosh, feels a little lonely with no football on the weekend, but this is fine, because those of us making sports picks have a large variety of choices in our pursuit to makes money against the sportsbooks.

N.Y. Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets 7:05 ET  MSG, YES
Brooklyn has not won three games in a row in over a month and will attempt to win consecutive home games for the first time just before Christmas. The Nets have covered four in a row and there is no mistaking what has led the resurgence, making baskets. Brooklyn has averaged 108.7 points a game in those covers and that is the main reason the NBA betting odds on the total has risen so dramatically from 191 to 195.5. The Knicks averaging just 92.8 PPG is cause for pause, yet the Nets are  9-0 OVER at home after covering the spread in three or more consecutive games the last three seasons.

NBA Pick – Lean Over

Golden State Warriors vs. Atlanta Hawks  7:35 ET  CSN-BA, SPSO
Can anyone explain why this is not a nationally televised game, which should be showcasing the two best teams in the NBA? This is something every NBA basketball handicapper and those perusing the betting odds would surely love to see, unless you have the NBA season pass package. Regardless, those placing  NBA picks have spoken up and they firmly believe Golden State is the best team in the Association and move them from +1 to -2. Both teams ran off the longest winning streaks in franchise history en route to the top of their respective conferences and are known for having employed similarly unselfish, well-rounded styles. Oddsmakers might be telling us the potential winner based on the total. Here we find the total at around 214 and Atlanta has yet to play in such a contest with that large a number. The Warriors on the other hand are comfortable with that pace and are 9-4 ATS at that figure our higher.

Niagara vs. Marist  7:00 ET
If the above NBA battle is a must-see, this is as important as another Kim Kardashian selfie. Niagara (4-18 SU) and Marist (4-17 SU) are tied for the basement in the MAAC, which means one will vacate the premises, at least for a few days. Those following SBR's live college basketball odds are thinking that will be Marist, who is up to -6 from -4.5. The Red Foxes have largely controlled this series at home with a 11-6 and 9-5 ATS marks and have won three in a row including at Niagara 65-61 a week ago as four-point underdog.

NCAA Basketball and NBA Matchups – Big Weekend Matchups

Notre Dame vs. Duke 1:00 ET  CBS
If the return matchup is anywhere close to as good a game as the first one was 11 days ago, it should be a heck of contest. Duke will have the revenge angle and is at home and will have to devise ways to get the ball out of Jerian Grant’s hands. With each passing game I like the Blue Devils Tyus Jones more and more and he could be the difference-maker in this confrontation. Duke is 10-1 and 5-6 ATS as home favorites and is expected to be in favored in the 8-10 point range. Notre Dame is 4-1 and 3-2 ATS as road underdogs.

Georgetown vs. Villanova  2:00 ET  FOX
Once again, Georgetown cannot be trusted. As I have mentioned here, after their Rece Davis “behind the woodshed” 20-point blowout of Villanova, the Hoyas have lost two home games to Xavier and Providence. While both are capable Big East clubs, if Georgetown is to be taken seriously, you cannot lose both! No doubt Jay Wright and the Wildcats will be ready in the rematch and they should be 9-11 point home faves and ‘lay the wood’ to the Hoyas in this one.

Louisville vs. Virginia 7:00 ET ESPN
If Virginia wins this ACC confrontation, they might not have another chance to lose again until the face the Cardinals at Louisville in their last contest of the season. This is the third-ranked opponent for the Cavaliers in eight days and they proved how good they really are by shaking off Duke loss and running away from North Carolina. Rick Pitino’s team relies on defense, but are a poor-shooting team and if Virginia handles the pressure well, not sure where the Cardinals pick up any edges. Virginia should be favored by 9-11 points and is 10-1 and 5-4 ATS. If my number is accurate, the ‘Ville will have a shot to cover and is 5-1 and 3-3 ATS on the road.

Kentucky vs. Florida 9:00 ET ESPN
No matter how hard ESPN tries, this is not a big game. Florida is 12-10 (7-12-2 ATS) and already has three home losses at the O-Dome. The Gators are 127th in field goal percentage, which explains part of their problems this year. Even fired up, chances are Billy Donovan’s players will find few clean looks at the rim against Kentucky’s imposing defense. The Wildcats are expected to be 12-14 point road favorites should gradually separate themselves and have a good shot at a cover.

L.A. Clippers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder 1:00 ET ABC (Sunday)
For the Clippers this is game No.7 on the road trip and Monday will be their fourth game in five games, thus one would think they would place more significance on this matinee and take their chances in Dallas. The Clips defense will have to be better against the Thunder than it has on this road trip. Oklahoma City continues to play rudderless but at least will be at home. Obviously this is a couple days out, but the Thunder should not be favored by more than two points based on power ratings.

L.A. Lakers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers 3:30 ABC (Sunday)
Cleveland will be double digit favorites and if they survive at Indiana, LeBron James and the Cavs could be after a franchise-breaking 14th straight victory. If not, they will be looking to start a new streak and it is difficult to imagine the Lakers putting up much of a fight being 1-8 ATS after two consecutive road underdog roles this season. (Friday night’s results pending)
