Four games on the NBA schedule Thursday night including the usual TNT doubleheader, which features Knicks at Bulls and a terrific Thunder at Warriors matchup. Here's a few recommendations for player prop wagers at sportsbooks.
Anthony Davis Total Points
Over 25.5: -125
Under 25.5 -105
The Pelicans are in Houston tonight and the Rockets are one of the NBA's best defensive teams, ranking No. 3 in points allowed at 95.5 per game. However, Houston might have heavy legs after playing in Denver on Wednesday night and going into overtime before prevailing 115-111. Davis missed a game Sunday with a chest injury but returned with 31 points in a win over Utah on Tuesday. New Orleans hasn't faced Houston this season. Last year in two games against the Rockets, Davis averaged 21.0 points per game.
NBA Free Pick: Under as long as Dwight Howard plays.
James Harden Total Points
Over 27: -115
Under 27: -115
Harden was my NBA pick to lead the NBA in scoring back in the preseason and so far so good as he is No. 1 in averaging 26.9 points per game, 1.5 more than No. 2 LeBron James. This month, Harden is up to 31.0 points per game. He has had to carry more of a load because the Rockets have been so banged up. Harden averages 24.8 points at home this season but has been playing fewer minutes with Houston having a few blowouts. Last year against New Orleans, Harden averaged 26.7 points in three games.
NBA Free Pick: Over.
Brandon Knight Points + Rebounds + Assists
Over 28.5: -115
Under 28.5: -115
Knight's Bucks are in Sacramento. Knight leads the Bucks in averaging 17.8 points and 5.4 assists. He's probably going to have to score more going forward for Milwaukee to succeed after the Bucks lost star rookie Jabari Parker, the team's second-leading scorer, to a torn ACL in Monday's win in Phoenix. In the team's first game without Parker the Bucks lost 104-97 in Portland on Wednesday. Knight had 24 points, two assists and three rebounds. Last year in two losses to the Kings, Knight averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds.
NBA Free Pick: Over.
Rudy Gay Total Points
Over 21.5: -115
Under 21.5: -115
Gay is probable to play against the Bucks despite right Achilles' tendinitis. Gay is averaging 21.3 points this month. His touches should go down a bit on Thursday because the Kings are expecting the return of stat center DeMarcus Cousins after missing 10 straight games with an illness. Last year Gay faced Milwaukee three times because he also played for Toronto for a while. He averaged 21.3 points.
NBA Free Pick: Under.
Kevin Durant Total Points + Rebounds
Over 31.5: -120
Under 31.5: -110
Durant's streaking Thunder are at Golden State in what should be a very high-scoring affair. The reigning NBA MVP and scoring champion has played in just eight games off his broken foot and is averaging 21.5 points and 5.4 rebounds. However, his minutes had been capped at 30. That changed Tuesday in Sacramento when Durant played 35 and had 26 points and three rebounds. He has still yet to have a 30-point game. Last year in three games against the Warriors, Durant averaged 33.0 points and 8.0 rebounds.
NBA Free Pick: Over.
Stephen Curry Total Points + Assists
Over 32.5: -125
Under 32.5: -115
The Warriors are looking to avoid just their second two-game skid of the season off Tuesday's 105-98 loss in Memphis that ended Golden State's franchise-best 16-game winning streak. Curry was definitely not good against the Grizzlies, going 9-for-25 from the field and just 1-for-10 from 3-ponit range in finishing with 19 points and six assists. He's averaging 23.5 points and 7.6 assists on the season. Curry was strong when the Warriors won 111-96 in Oklahoma City on Nov. 28 with 28 points and eight assists. The Thunder didn't have Durant or Russell Westbrook then. Last year, Curry averaged 30.3 points and 8.3 assists vs. OKC. You can also get a Curry special prop to finish with a double-double at +200 on NBA odds. He hasn't had one since Dec. 4. You can get Curry over 33.5 points at +600.
NBA Free Picks: Over 32.5 and roll the dice on the double-double. Curry will want to make up for Tuesday's disappointing effort.
