It's business as usual again as we have a full slate of NBA games on this Wednesday and there are some betting totals that we would like to focus in on that we think will benefit the betting public. Here are your picks.
Utah Jazz vs. Cleveland Cavaliers - Total -198.5
A Rest For LBJ
The time off is just what Lebron James needed. Ever since he returned to the Cavaliers lineup, they've won all 3 games, with scoring outputs of 108. 109, and 126. The last two games were impressive as they defeated very good team in the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Clippers. In the Clippers game, Kyrie Irving was the leading scorer with 37 points, but Lebron James was the star as he looked like he was a member of the Miami Heat, coming back from a 4th quarter deficit to outclass CP3 and Blake Griffin.
Funny enough, as I look at the injury report, Kevin Love and his aching back aren't mentioned, but Lebron James is mentioned. I definitely think that James will play despite flu symptoms. If James was not expected to play, the NBA Odds wouldn't be out for this game so early and I also think that LBJ wants to keep Cleveland's momentum going. That said, a sick James is something to keep an eye on as I like the over in this game. Although the Jazz aren't as good a team as Cleveland, they have a lot of young talent in the form of Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors, Trey Burke, and Rudy Gobert, who is coming off of a 13 point, 18 rebound effort in a loss to the Spurs.
The two major concerns in taking the over is that this game can become a blowout and we might not see the Cavs starters in the 4th quarter and the Jazz are coming off of an awful showing against the Spurs in which they managed just 69 points. The Spurs can be a very confusing team and I expect a faster tempo with a more simpler defense in Cleveland. With a lot of important factors leading to the under, I like the over in this game.
NBA Pick- Over 195 at BetOnline
New York Knicks vs. Phildelphia 76'ers - total - 189.5
Someone has to win as you have two of the worst teams in the league with the Knicks and the 76'ers. That said, New York is coming off of a 99-92 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day that snapped a 16 game losing streak. What you have here is two teams that have poor offenses, but also have poor defenses. The betting total is placed somewhere in the middle and the bettor has to find which way that it lands.
Momentum Is a Beautiful Thing
The Knicks have a legitimate chance at a 2nd consecutive win as the Sixers have had less excuse for being bad. New York's starting lineup has been depleted with injuries and it's only a matter of time in when Carmelo Anthony get's surgery.
New York no longer has J.R. Smith on their team and it's up to the younger talent such as Tim Hardaway Jr. and Langston Galloway to get this team going. Galloway is a player recently sent up from the NBA D-League and came up with a career high 21 points against the Pelicans. If Galloway can come anywhere close to that point output, this game has a great chance of going over the total. Nonetheless, the Knicks have Melo and Amare Stoudemire back in the lineup and this game will be competitive.
The SIxers are coming off of a really bad 111-76 loss to the Washington Wizards. I'm sure they're thinking that a visit from the Knicks will equal a win, but it doesn't look that way to me with their inconsistent offense and awful defense.
Michael Carter- Williams is having a sophomore slump after winning Rookie of the Year and while Nerlens Noel shows glimpses of greatness, he's the most inconsistent player on the planet that focuses more on his defense. The SIxers also have guys that can produce such as Robert Covington and Tony Wroten, but they are also inconsistent and shoot at a low percentage rate.
Look for the Knicks to play well in this game, but both of these teams don't have the ability combined to eclipse the betting total. Take the under as your NBA Pick.
