While Thursday may not be the biggest day of NBA action, it does have three games to offer, and I think a couple of them are still very valuable despite the short card. With this weekend’s big slate of games coming up, let’s see if we can add some padding to our bankrolls for the weekend’s NBA Odds.

Bucks vs. Hawks
From a pure fan’s perspective, this game is pretty unwatchable, however it does seem to have enough value to add to our NBA Picks. The NBA Odds for this one favor Atlanta at -9 ½, with a total of 209 points. Neither team played last night and I think that might help my play on this game. While I’m laying off the giant spread, I do see the total as a better play.
This is only the second meeting between these two teams this season, however the last three times they have played, the total has gone over. In fact nine of the last 10 times they’ve met up with one another over the last several seasons, the total has gone over.
The over has also cashed in eight of the Bucks’ last ten games, and eight of the last 11 for the Hawks. With neither team playing any defense at this point in the season, and both looking towards the lottery (The Hawks really need to keep losing if they want to miss the playoffs) this game should resemble more of a summer league game than a regular season NBA game.
The over has cashed in five of Milwaukee’s last seven road games, and four of Atlanta’s last six home games. One of the main reasons for Atlanta’s lack of defense is their lack of a post presence. In their last ten games, the Hawks have given up over 111 points per game, and a lot of those are in the paint. While I doubt Milwaukee can get to 110+, they should be able to get above 100 points, which will easily cash the over.
NBA Pick: OVER 209
These two teams played just days ago and the Lakers actually beat the Thunder in LA. However now they go to Oklahoma City to face the new #2 seed in the west. The Thunder can’t retake the West with a win tonight, but you can bet that they will be looking for revenge and a blowout at home. However I doubt they will have to keep their foot on the gas the entire game if they get a big lead early.
The NBA Odds have the Thunder as -16 favorites, with a total of 228 points. While both numbers are very high, I once again think the total has the value between these two teams. Even though the over is trending with both clubs recently, this total is very high, and I think it’s too high.
In their three meetings this season, including their recent win, the Lakers are only averaging 104 points per game against the Thunder, and two of the three games were in LA. Their first meeting of the season was in OKC though, and the Lakers only scored 97 points. I could easily see a final score of 118-97 between these two tonight, and I’m on the under. The Lakers’ offense hasn’t gotten much better since December.
This late in the season, both of these teams are tired, and the Thunder are starting a stretch tonight of three games in five nights. If they have a big lead early in the game, they could opt to rest players in the second half, which would potentially lead to less scoring. Even a close game like the one we saw a few days ago would help the under because of tonight’s overinflated total.
NBA Pick: UNDER 228
