The Spurs started the season playing pretty well, but being without Kawhi Leonard hurts them a lot on both ends of the court, and against the Warriors tonight that is probably going to show.

Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs

Leonard has already been ruled out for Thursday night and now the Spurs are going to have to figure out a way to slow down Kevin Durant. San Antonio’s defense hasn’t been bad without Leonard, in fact quite the opposite. However, against a team like the Warriors, being without their top two-way player is pretty much a death sentence.

Right now the Spurs are +7½ home underdogs against the Dubs, and the total in the NBA Odds is sitting anywhere from 216-217 depending on the sportsbook you’re looking at. These are pretty reasonable numbers, but I also think the sportsbooks are undervaluing what Leonard brings to the Spurs offensively. Over their last three games from this recent road trip, the Spurs have failed to score more than 94 points once, and that was against two good and one bad defensive team.

Being back at home will surely help their offense, but if the Warriors bring their defense (which they haven’t much to start the season) I very much expect this to be a rout. Golden State is currently averaging over 125 points per game on the road, and even the mighty Spurs and Gregg Popovich won’t be able to lower that number without their best player. The sportsbooks are giving us a gift of -7½ with this one.
