After Kawhi Leonard's heavy recruiting effort, Paul George made it very clear to the Thunder in recent days that he wanted a trade to the Clippers. OKC agreed to his demand and now Russell Westbrook's future with the team is up in the air.

It wouldn't be surprising if the Thunder trade Westbrook as well, after all, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski: "The Thunder had been willing to pursue a package of Russell Westbrook and Paul George to the Raptors, but no talks ever gained traction."

Wojnarowski then added that in the end, the Raptors didn't have the assets to satisfy the Thunder, with or without Pascal Siakam in any proposed deal.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Paul George when Russell Westbrook tells him that they’re gonna run the West pic.twitter.com/XR3Q96r86C
— Justin (@IIconicJ) July 6, 2019
"}[/]

The Thunder traded George to the Clippers for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, four unprotected first round picks, one protected first round pick and two pick swaps. OKC now has a lot to build their future around, but also makes many wonder if keeping Westbrook should be their long-term plan.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium: "Rival NBA teams have been aware of the discontent of OKC's two stars: Paul George -- and Russell Westbrook." If Russell Westbrook was already discontent then it's unlikely that the Paul George trade will make him feel any better about the team.

Westbrook is under contract through 2022-23 and he has a player option in 2022. He's set to make $38.5 million next season. The star point guard averaged a triple-double for the third straight season but he struggled with his shot in the playoffs, making just 36.0 percent of his field goal attempts and 32.4 percent of his 3-pointers while getting outplayed by Damian Lillard in five games of their first round series against the Trail Blazers.

The talent is clearly there but Westbrook's hero ball, like what happens with James Harden in Houston, doesn't lead to Championships and Paul George realized this. Kevin Durant also knew this when he left OKC three years ago.

Russell Westbrook to be traded before Game 1 of the 2019-20 regular season
(Courtesy of BetOnline)

No -150

Yes +110

Russell Westbrook's Team For Game 1 of the 2019-20 NBA Season?
(Courtesy of BetOnline)

Thunder +175

Knicks +200

Heat +400

Pistons +600

Rockets +600

Timberwolves +700
