After the blockbuster trade that sent Chris Paul to the Thunder and Russell Westbrook to the Rockets, CP3's future remained up in the air and now it seems that he won't play a single game for OKC.

The latest NBA trade rumors link Chris Paul to the Heat, with the Thunder appearing committed to trading him elsewhere.

After missing out on Russell Westbrook, the Heat are now mentioned as a possible destination for Paul. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski:

"Houston hoped to find third-team destination preferable to Chris Paul, but ultimately leaves it OKC to execute next step once Presti confers w/ CP3 agent Leon Rose. Miami remains possibility for Paul (3 years, $124M) -- and OKC obviously has picks to incentivize deal, if needed."

Chris Paul back in Oklahoma City would have been a nice story because he played there temporarily with the then-New Orleans Hornets after Hurricane Katrina but ESPN reported that this won't happen as the Thunder have already talked with Paul's agents on a potential final landing spot with the Heat:

"Presti already is working with Paul's agents at CAA Sports — Leon Rose and Steven Heumann — to redirect the nine-time All-Star to a new team, league sources tell ESPN. The Heat are prominent in the conversations, but there are other possibilities also being explored, sources said. Presti and Rose worked together last year on a similar situation with Carmelo Anthony."

Why would the Thunder want to trade Paul after just acquiring him from the Rockets? The trade was more about moving Russell Westbrook's salary than landing Chris Paul as the team is heading for a rebuild and he doesn't fit that timeline.

The Heat reportedly refused to include Tyler Herro or Bam Adebayo in a Russell Westbrook trade but they have a good chance of acquiring Paul without losing either player, as long as they take on the remaining three years of Paul's four-year, $159,730,592 contract. If Miami trades for CP3, the package could include Goran Dragic along with additional players.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Chris Paul’s Usage Rate with the Houston Rockets:

Regular Season
2017-2018: 24.5
2018-2019: 22.5

Playoffs
2017-2018: 26.7
2018-2019: 22.7
;/a>
— Kory Waldron (@KWalHoops) June 18, 2019
"}[/]

James Harden and Chris Paul were not on the same page throughout Game 6 of the second round series against the Warriors and there were reports of a clash of styles brewing throughout the regular season, with different players, including Paul asking head coach Mike D'Antoni for more ball movement on offense.

Paul averaged a career-low 15.6 points in 32.0 minutes over 58 games last season but he's still one of the best floor generals in the league, he dished out 8.2 assists, helped with 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals and a change of scenery can get him back on track. The Pistons, Timberwolves and Magic are other trade options for CP3.

Chris Paul To Be On Oklahoma City Thunder Roster For Game 1 of the 2019-20 NBA Season
(Courtesy of BetOnline)

No -160

Yes +120

Odds to Win the 2019-20 NBA Championship

Los Angeles Clippers +350

Los Angeles Lakers +500

Milwaukee Bucks +500

Houston Rockets +800

Philadelphia 76ers +900

Golden State Warriors +1400

Utah Jazz +1400

Denver Nuggets +1400

Boston Celtics +2000

Brooklyn Nets +3300

Portland Trail Blazers +3300

Toronto Raptors +3300

Dallas Mavericks +4000

Indiana Pacers +4000

Miami Heat +5000

San Antonio Spurs +6600

New Orleans Pelicans +10000

Sacramento Kings +12500

Atlanta Hawks +15000

Detroit Pistons +15000

Oklahoma City Thunder +15000

Orlando Magic +15000

Minnesota Timberwolves +20000

Chicago Bulls +25000

Memphis Grizzlies +30000

New York Knicks +30000

Phoenix Suns +30000

Washington Wizards +30000

Charlotte Hornets +50000

Cleveland Cavaliers +50000
