Only 24 hours away until free agency gets underway in the NBA, we discuss which teams show the best value for NBA Odds, and which teams might see their odds skyrocket by next week.
Golden State Warriors (+250)
Imagine Kevin Durant coming to the Warriors this offseason. That could take their odds below even money to win the championship. That kind of line movement potential has to be looked at when talking about the Warriors’ odds to win a title, and who to target before free agency starts. Even if Durant goes elsewhere, or resigns with the Thunder the Warriors have the cap room to make a huge splash this summer.
They could bring in a veteran like Dirk Nowitzki if he decides to leave the Mavericks, or they could try to bring in another veteran like Pau Gasol to man the center spot. At +250 in sportsbooks, there is really no direction other than shortening these odds could go this summer, so Golden State Could end up having one of the best values of any of the futures right now, even though they are already the favorite for NBA pick.
San Antonio Spurs (+700 at WilliamHill)
The San Antonio Spurs are another team with little to lose this summer and a lot to gain. I’m assuming Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobli come back for one final season, but the Spurs also have room to sign a big name free agent. Even if they have the same veterans in play for Golden State, could be in play for San Antonio. Imagine a frontcourt of LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol next season? Or imagine Durant on the Spurs?
Any of this is seemingly possible, and while the Spurs will have a tough decision on whether to match Boban Marjanovic’s eventual offer sheet this summer, if they land Durant they don’t need to make that choice. If San Antonio can grab another big piece like they did when they signed Aldridge, this team is going to skyrocket in the NBA odds to win a championship next season.
Boston Celtics (+2000)
The Boston Celtics are one of the more intriguing teams in free agency this summer. They still have a ton of assets, they have loads of cap space, and they have a nice young core of players already in place. Could they pull off something similar to what they did almost nine years ago when they brought in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to team with Paul Pierce. They went from middling Eastern Conference team to title contender in the NBA Odds that offseason, and they have the cap room and desire to do it again this summer.
I would not be surprised if even Durant came to Boston to get out of the West. The Celtics have the money to pair Durant with another player like Hassan Whiteside or Al Horford this summer, which along with their already nice backcourt could send the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. All Boston has to do is convince one of the top 10 free agents to come there, and they already have a better team that +2000 to win the title. The sportsbooks know this, as they have the sixth best odds to win a title next season. However, Boston needs some luck, and some faith among either Durant, or another big name star this summer.
