The NBA takes center stage with many sports bettors, now that the NFL season is in the books. Breaking down some of this week’s matchups, there could be a significant edge when it comes to cashing in on a hot team from each conference.

NBA: Eastern Conference Betting Edge

The Boston Celtics have the best straight-up record in the Eastern Conference at 39-15 coming off this past weekend’s action, and they are also the top team in the NBA against the spread at 33-19-2. They are two games in front of Toronto in the standings with a huge showdown against the Raptors on Tuesday night’s NBA odds board.

Boston has won its last four games SU and is a perfect 6-0 ATS in its last six outings. This has been a solid betting team on the road all season at 17-8 ATS, and more recently it has gone 4-1 ATS in its last five road games. The total has gone "over" in four of those five.

The Raptors are 4-1 SU in their last five games to improve to 36-16 SU. After covering in their last two victories, against Portland and Memphis at home, they are 28-24 ATS on the year. The concern for Tuesday night’s matchup against Boston is a much less reliable betting record of 4-7 ATS over their last 11 contests. Toronto is a rock-solid 21-4 SU at home, but it has covered in only 14 of those 25 games. Its record ATS in its last seven home games falls to 3-4.

Head-to-head in this heated Atlantic Division tilt, Boston has a SU 4-2 edge in the last six meetings, with the total staying "under"in six of the last seven.

The Utah Jazz do not get nearly as much attention as the top teams in the West such as Golden State, Houston and San Antonio, but I see this team as a diamond in the rough when it comes to betting on them to cover. They are still on the outside looking in as far as the playoff picture with a SU 24-28 record through 52 games, but the Jazz are quietly building some momentum for a second-half run right into the postseason mix.

Utah brings a five-game winning streak both SU and ATS into Monday’s matchup at New Orleans. It will close a four-game road trip on Wednesday against Memphis. The opening line for Monday’s contest had the Jazz as 3.5-point road underdogs, but regardless of what happens in this game they should open as slight favorites Wednesday against a Grizzlies team that is 2-6 SU its last eight games. Utah has covered in five of its last six road games heading into this week’s action.

New Orleans has failed to cover in three of its last four games and is 10-14-1 ATS at home this season, but the sweeter spot betting on Utah this week could be in Wednesday’s matchup. Memphis has been kind to bettors lately at 8-3 ATS in its last 11 games, but it has failed to cover in two of its last three home games. Memphis is 18-34 SU overall and losers of its last three games heading into Tuesday night’s game against Atlanta to close out a four-game road trip. Fatigue could be a factor Wednesday against the Jazz, with the Grizzlies playing their third game in four nights.
