The second leg of Golden State's long (by distance), yet brief three-game road trip takes place in Brooklyn where the Warriors will be heavily favored to knock off the Nets. After this contest, Golden State will leave immediately for Chicago and will be playing three games in four nights away from home which is always tough.

As we went to post there were no NBA odds yet (except for BetOnline), but our power ratings are forecasting Golden State will be an 8 or 9-point road favorite. Here is a look at how both teams enter this contest.

Warriors Watch

After scuffling through their first three games of the season, winning twice and posting a 0-3 ATS mark, coach Steve Kerr's message got through.

The Warriors have, for now, put away their arrogance and jumped on teams this week and let the reserves play most of the fourth quarter.

Clearly, playing a team like Brooklyn is not going to bring out the best of Golden State, but Kerr has liked what he's seen this week."We’ve gotten better since we began. I just want the team to keep getting better, Kerr stated. "Overall, the last couple games, we’ve looked more like ourselves with the movement, the flow offensively. I want that to continue, but I want our defensive effort to improve."

This is likely where the focus of the Warriors will be and it continues to be the hidden reason for their success. At last look, Kerr's crew was 6th in field goal shooting defense, 10th defensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions) and No.1 in defending shot attempts from beyond the arc.

Nets News

This will be just Brooklyn's second home game as they wrapped their three-game excursion with a loss at New Orleans to finish 1-2 SU and 2-1 ATS.

The Nets are a modestly talented team that will have to rely on another to compete and win games. In the frontcourt, Brooklyn is thin, but picking power forward Ed Davis brings a hard-worker and a player the younger Nets can emulate. Center Jarrett Allen is a rim protector with modest offensive skills, who can improve since he's only 20.

With NBA games now played at hyper-speed, coach Kenny Atkinson understands his team's limitations and might have found a way that goes against the current norm.

Brooklyn is last in the league in shot attempts at 82 per contest. With more than two-thirds of the teams in the NBA at 89 or higher attempts, the Nets are trying to slow the pace and force opponents to play defense longer.

This has helped Carl Levert, Joe Harris and Spencer Dinwiddie to be more effective.

The Outcome

For NBA picks, it would easy to back Golden State who has won and covered three straight. But for some reason they have not always done as well against Brooklyn/New Jersey and they are just 5-11 ATS facing the Nets in their building.

With Brooklyn 7-1 ATS at home against foes with a winning road record, we will take the Nets.
