Swinger is 8-2 ATS since we began featuring his Friday night NBA picks and tonight our esteemed handicapper is prepared to deliver two more winning selections after reviewing the NBA odds and adding to your bankroll.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Boston Celtics
The NBA odds makers don’t make lines based on their opinions of what will happen but rather what they believe will be the public perception of what will happen. Of course you will find an occasional maverick who will post an opening number based on his own personal bias but that’s old school and virtually all of the offshores and Vegas sportsbooks fall in line within a half-point or so depending upon which way their clientele is betting.

I give you this lecture on Bookmaking 101 because I see a line that appeared to be pandering to public opinion which is always a golden opportunity if you happen to be on the opposite side as I am in this particular matchup. The only problem is the public, the sharps or perhaps a combination of both have driven this number up and proven that the odds makers misjudged the public’s perception and guys like me are betting that they got it wrong. So now this opportunity isn’t quite so golden yet we will take the plunge on over 194 as it is only half-a-point higher than the opener but has climbed to as high as 195 in some shops.

So why do I like the ‘over’ in this one? Well, for openers Celtics’ games have gone over the posted total in six of seven occurrences when the total is between 195 (as it is now in some shops) and 199 ½ when playing at home. In addition, these teams have played over in three of the last four meetings when playing in Boston. Lastly, the Celtics’ offense is in high gear scoring in triple digits the last three contests and averaging over 107 points per game yet their defense is ranked only 24th which should give plenty of opportunities for the Bucs to get their share of points as well.

New York Knicks vs. Washington Wizards
The Knicks are horrendous this season which makes it difficult to even contemplate backing them in my NBA picks. But when I look at the vastly superior Wizards club their ATS is a money burning 30-43 which has cost those Washington believers a few nickels to be sure. So what is it about this game that attracts me to the woeful Knickerbockers? It’s the 15 point head start of course. We are not anticipating New York to upset the Wizards but we believe they can at least keep it somewhat respectable.

Before the Wizards last game in which they throttled the 76’ers they had failed to cover the NBA odds in six consecutive contests while the lowly Knicks have covered two of their last three. In their last meeting, held in Washington by the way, the Wizards were installed as 14-point favorites and delivered a 101-91 victory for their fans but it wasn’t enough to cash for those backing the double digit home favorites.

Washington is not exactly a scoring juggernaut ranked 19th in the NBA which always makes me lean towards their opponents getting double digit advantages. The Knicks fought Brooklyn hard in their last outing but ultimately dropped a narrow 100-98 decision at home yet covered courtesy of the 9 ½ points given by the oddsmakers. I see a re-do of their last meeting as Washington is looking ahead to their meeting at Memphis tomorrow night while the Knicks get tomorrow off before they travel to Philadelphia.
