Back in January Utah hosted Indiana beating the Pacers 109-100. Today they meet up again in Indiana and odds makers have made Utah a small road favorite. With Indiana on the second leg of a back to back can Utah pull off the road win?

Indiana Pacers

Indiana will be playing their second game in two nights as they host one of the best defensive teams. I think this is a tough spot for them so I will fade them tonight despite the fact they have been good at home this season. Indiana remains a formidable team and has some nice statistics across the board offensively ranking ninth in both overall shooting percentage and three-point shooting percentage.

On the other side of the ball they have also been decent ranking seventh and eighth in opponent overall shooting percentage, and opponent three-point shooting percentage respectively. The situation tonight though is quite difficult for them especially against such a slow-paced team in Utah that really plays to a slow tempo. As well, the last three times they have played the second leg of a back to back have all been losses to Charlotte, Miami, and Milwaukee respectively.

Utah Jazz

I’ve been really impressed with this Utah team so far this season and their propensity to play great defense. Currently, Utah ranks first in the NBA in opponent scoring and opponent two-point shooting percentage. They also rank second and third in opponent shooting efficiency and opponent effective field-goal percentage respectively. On top of their really solid defensive statistics, Utah has been able to put up points this year in an efficient manner.

Although they are only averaging 100.3 points per game which rank third to last, their efficiency ratings are solid shooting 46.3% overall and 51% on their two-point shots ranking them 10th and ninth respectively. On top of those statistics, the Jazz also rank 10th in the NBA in both shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage respectively. Coming off some rest will really be the difference tonight in this matchup so I will take a shot in backing the better-rested team in the Jazz.

Utah Jazz vs Indiana Pacers

Oddsmakers have made Utah a -2.5 favorite and for my NBA pick, I will back them minus the points. This is a situation play for me as Indiana has struggled somewhat on the second leg of their back to back’s recently, and Utah is no joke defensively.
