The last time Cleveland and Miami matched up the Cavaliers destroyed the Heat by 30 points. Since that time Miami has become one of the hottest teams in the East and oddsmakers have made them just a small underdog at home despite that blowout. Can Miami pull the minor upset?

Cleveland Cavaliers

After taking on Atlanta last night Cleveland comes into Miami on the second leg of a back to back. With some recent acquisitions, Cleveland looks again to be the team to beat in the Eastern conference and offensively across the board they are one of the deadliest teams in the league. Currently, they are averaging 110.9 points per game and shooting 38.8% from distance which ranks them third and second in the NBA respectively. As well they rank third in shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage. As I’ve stated in articles before I have no problem with them offensively; it is on the other side of the ball though where they can struggle.

Cleveland is not a very good defensive team when in comparison to the elite teams of the league allowing opponents to shoot 45.5% overall which ranks them right in the middle of the NBA. As well, they’re one of the worst teams in defending from beyond the arc with opponents shooting 36.5% from distance. This is a much different Miami team they’re facing tonight and odds makers have this number small for a reason.

Miami Heat

Miami defensively remains one of the best in the NBA statistically. Over the past two months, they have played extremely good basketball on both sides of the ball and could be a dark course in the Eastern conference race. Offensively there is not a ton to love about this Miami team but they do shoot over 45% from the floor and over 36% from distance ranking them right in the middle of the league.

Defensively though there is a lot to like as they are allowing opponents to shoot just 48.4% on their two-point shots which ranks them second in the league, along with ranking fourth in opponent shooting efficiency and opponent effective field-goal percentage although playing Cleveland is never an easy task and Miami is also coming off the second leg of a back to back, they are at home and should come into this game with a lot of confidence even against Cleveland so I will grab them on the plus money line.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Miami Heat

Oddsmakers currently have Cleveland as a -2 or in some places a -1.5 favorite in this spot. For my NBA pick, though I’m going to forgo the points and take Miami on the plus money line. Look for the Heat to find a way on the defensive side of the ball to win this game.
