In their two earlier matchups this year the Pacers an Celtics combined for 198 and 193 points respectively. NBA odds have the total for this game a bit higher than that, check our NBA pick inside.

NBA odds have set the total for this game at 201 and Boston favorite -2. For my selection today I'm going to back over this total as I anticipate with the pace and a little less defensive focus for these two teams to put up quite a few points. I wouldn't say so much that this game will be a track meet, however I do believe we will see a final well above the total.

Indiana Pacers
Indiana is averaging 101.9 points per game while shooting 44.3% from the field, and allowing 98.3 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field. This season, although they are running at a quicker pace, they are actually 16-21 on the over/under line this season. However, they are 11-9 on the road going over the total and this looks like a good spot for that to happen again. Offensively, as I've mentioned before, this is simply a very different Indiana team as opposed to last year as they are getting out in space and putting up a lot of shots from distance. From beyond the arc they're shooting 35.9% on the season which ranks 10th in the NBA, and they are shooting them at a pretty solid 24.7 per game. As well, Indiana is pushing a lot more tempo compared to the last few years averaging 85.1 shots per game which ranks ninth in the NBA. Defensively they are still solid even though they push tempo and allow other teams to run with them allowing opponents an average of 84.3 field goal attempts per game, which ranks in the bottom part of the league. Statistically they defend from the inside out very well limiting opponents to just 32.4% beyond the arc and only 19.8 opponent assist per game. All these averages so drop a bit on the road and I expect Boston to be able to score tonight pushing the pace for most of this contest.

Boston Celtics
Boston is averaging 102.3 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, and allowing 99.1 points per game on 42.7% shooting from the field. Against the spread Boston has been exactly the same as Indiana going 16-21 on their over/under totals, but a decent 10-9 going over at home prior to yesterday's game versus the Knicks. Over the last 10 games they have gone under the total for most of them but I expect for that trend to change tonight. Statistically Boston ranks in the bottom part of the league in most of their shooting percentage categories. Nevertheless, because of their pace they rank in the top part of the league in field goals made per game at 38.2 per contest which ranks ninth in the league. As well, Boston ranks first in the league in field goal attempts averaging 88.7 per game.  Defensively, like offensively, the Celtics are similar to Indiana in that they have good defensive percentages but they do allow teams to go up tempo with them.

This will be primarily a perimeter based up and down shooting affair between these two teams.  For one of your NBA picks I recommend backing the Pacers and Celtics to get a lot of good looks and knock down enough to go over the total.  Good game between two mirror image teams.
