The Trailblazers host the Nets on Wednesday evening in Portland, Oregon with the opening tip scheduled for 10:05 PM ET. Who should we be backing with our NBA picks in this affair?

According to NBA betting odds Portland is a 2.5 point home favorite and the posted total is 205.0. It will be the 2nd meeting between these teams this season. The first matchup saw Portland winning at Brooklyn 108-98 on November 18th, and covering as a 2.0 point underdog.

Getting Back on Track

Portland comes off a 100-95 win at Denver last night and covered as a 2.5 point favorite. The win was their 3rd in a row which is a very welcomed sign for Portland fans. Prior to this recent 3-game win streak they’d gone 5-9 over a 14-game period. The Trailblazers have seen all of their previous 3-games go under the total. However they’ve scored 100-points or more in each of their last 5-games, and they’ve gone over the total in 14 of 17-games this season when that has occurred, with an average combined total score of 220.5 points. The Trailblazers have also gone over the total in 13 of 18-games this season as a favorite or underdog of 3.0 or less. Portland currently leads the NBA in scoring offense averaging 107.7 points per game. The Blazers will continue to be without the services of their leading scorer and rebounder LaMarcus Aldridge (23.7 ppg/11.4 rpg) who will miss his 5th consecutive game. Aldridge is sidelined with a groin injury and his timetable for his return has yet to be determined.

Road Weary Nets

Tonight will mark the 5th consecutive road game for the Brooklyn Nets. After tonight the road trip resumes with games at Denver tomorrow, and at Milwaukee on Saturday, before they return home to play Chicago on Monday. Brooklyn has held their own thus far going 2-2 in the first 4-games of the road swing. In their most recent game they defeated the Lakers 108-102 at the Staples Center on Sunday and covered as a 3.0 point favorite. The Nets got off to a horrible start to the season, but have since bounced back going 16-7 over their last 23-games. They enter tonight 2nd in the Atlantic Division 4.5 games behind the division leading Toronto Raptors, and are 6th overall in the Eastern Conference.

Final Analysis

Brooklyn will be playing with 2-days of rest this evening, Portland will be playing with no rest, and this will also be the Blazers 3rd game in the last 4-days. Portland has managed to win their last 3-games despite being without their leading scorer and rebounder LaMarcus Aldridge. However, this is a spot where he will be sorely missed when all factors are considered. My slight nod goes to the road underdog in this spot for our free basketball picks.
