Each day Swinger looks at who is making news and how it might affect sports bettors down the road.  Let’s take a look at today’s newsmakers.

The King’s Destination
Where will the King hold court next season and many seasons thereafter? That’s the big question and there are offshore sportsbooks that are deigning to deal future props on the 2014-2015 NBA season until that question is answered. But the problem is that this is becoming a chicken-and-the-egg scenario. LeBron will need to see that Miami will be adding complementary pieces around the Big Three in order to ensure that the Heat contend yet again. However, those complementary players may very well be unwilling to sign in Miami unless they know that LeBron is indeed returning to South Beach.

In fact, LeBron’s good buddy Ray Allen may postpone his retirement and land any place that LeBron decides to call home. If rumors are true, then one of the prerequisites to adding LeBron James’ name to the roster would be including Ray Allen as well. What started out as a savvy grand plan to keep the Big Three in Miami with James, Bosh and Wade opting out of their contracts to re-sign with cap friendly numbers for Miami may well be the dissolution of this dynasty that never was. If LeBron takes his talents elsewhere then it doesn’t really matter where Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade wind up next season. To be continued…

NBA Picks: Carmelo Anthony to LA?

Browns Cursed?
Perhaps the better headline would be “Browns Cursed”, minus the question mark. Cleveland’s primetime receiver Josh Gordon has run afoul of the law once again as he got lugged on July 5th on a DWI charge. This latest kerfuffle will be a devastating blow if Gordon is out of action for any prolonged length of time as he is embroiled in a marijuana charge from May that could land him a yearlong suspension. Without Gordon catching passes from either Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel, the Browns 4-12 record from last season may look like a good year.

If Gordon is sidelined for any length of time then one might conclude that the NFL prop odds on Johnny Manziel tossing over or under 10 ½ (-120) TD’s on the season that Ladbrokes is dealing might be a good spot to hop on the ‘under’ in this case. And while we are at it, why don’t we also look towards the ‘under’ in total wins for the season. Bet365.com will pay you to bet the ‘under’ 6 ½ wins on the season as they are +120 and -150 to play the ‘over’ in NFL odds. Sounds like Josh Gordon’s legal woes could add up to money in the bank for the sharps.

Bosh to Houston?
Rumors persist that Chris Bosh is getting a bit restless as LeBron James continues to leave one and all speculating about his return to Miami.  This summer’s offseason soap opera is coaxing Bosh to explore alternative destinations for next season and Houston appears to be very much a Plan B for the seven-time NBA All-Star.

If indeed Bosh is seduced into a Rockets uniform that could indeed make Houston a viable NBA championship contender. The current NBA odds of 18-1 on Houston to become this season’s NBA champs could look mighty appealing if you take a gamble and bet them now. If and when Bosh is welcomed into a Rockets uniform, you can expect a dramatic drop in those odds. However, if Bosh heads back to South Beach you may be holding a ticket that you wouldn’t ordinarily want without the 6’11” sharpshooter draining buckets for Houston.
