By The Numbers is a daily NBA column featuring three top selections according to historical trends and game-time matchups. Let’s review the top picks for Friday evening and cash in our NBA picks.

Heat (23-30 SU, 31-22 ATS) At Nets (9-44 SU, 22-29-2 ATS)
  • Brooklyn is 1-6 ATS in their last seven games as a home underdog of 5.0-10.5.

  • Brooklyn is 1-10 ATS in their last 11 home games.

  • Brooklyn is 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games playing on one day’s rest.

  • Brooklyn is 1-5 ATS in their last six home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

  • Miami is 8-0 ATS when playing against a team with a losing record - 2nd half of the season.

  • Miami is 17-8 ATS in their last 25 Friday games.

  • Miami is 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS win.

  • Miami is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5.

Eventually the Nets will win a game and the Heat will fail to cover. But until I see evidence that at least one of the two is likely to happen I will play it by the numbers. The Heat have been unconscious, winning and covering the NBA odds in 12 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 17. Conversely, the Nets have lost 11 straight and have covered in just four of those contests.

NBA Free Pick: Heat -6.5Best Line Offered: Skybook

Nuggets (23-29 SU, 26-24-2 ATS) At Knicks (22-32 SU, 29-25-1 ATS)
  • New York is 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.

  • New York is 0-4 ATS in their last four when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.

  • New York is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

  • Denver is 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss.

  • Denver is 7-1 ATS in their last eight games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

  • Denver is 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a straight up loss of more than 10 points.

  • Denver is 6-1 ATS in their last seven when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.

The Nuggets have won and covered their last three games against the Knicks including a 127-114 trouncing on Dec. 17 in Denver in their only meeting this season. New York has been tailspinning recently, having lost straight up and against the number in four of their last five contests. Denver should be included in your NBA picks as the Nuggets are not only the better team but are getting a couple of points to boot.

NBA Free Pick: Nuggets +2.5Best Line Offered: Betmania

Hawks (31-22 SU, 27-26 ATS) At Kings (21-32 SU, 25-26 ATS)
  • Sacramento is 0-4-1 ATS in their last five Friday games.

  • Sacramento is 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight games following a straight up win.

  • Sacramento is 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight up win of more than 10 points.

  • Sacramento is 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a home underdog of 0.5-4.5.

  • Atlanta is 5-2 ATS in their last seven Friday games.

  • Atlanta is 5-0 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400.

  • Atlanta is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

  • Atlanta is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games.

The Hawks defeated the Kings 106-95 in their only meeting this season and are 4-1 ATS over their last five games against Sacramento. Ty Lawson will most likely miss this game for the Kings as he is sidelined with a hamstring injury and his 24 minutes plus per game will be missed. We will lay the slight number on the road with the far more talented Hawks.

NBA Free Pick: Hawks -2Best Line Offered: BookMaker
