By the Numbers is a daily NBA column featuring Swinger’s top selections according to historical trends and game-time matchups. Let’s review the top picks for Friday.

Raptors (39-29 SU, 36-31-1 ATS) At Pistons (33-35 SU, 33-25 ATS)
  • Detroit is 8-1 ATS in their last nine games following a straight up loss.
  • Detroit is 7-1 ATS in their last eight games following an ATS loss.
  • Detroit is 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite.
  • Detroit is 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a home favorite of 0.5-4.5.
  • Toronto is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • Toronto is 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
  • Toronto is 1-6 ATS in their last seven after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • Toronto is 0-4 ATS in their last four games playing on zero day’s rest.

We faded the Raptors on Wednesday and it proved to be a winning strategy in our NBA picks as they fell hard to the Thunder 123-102 as 2½-point home chalk. Now they travel to Motown on the second leg of a back-to-back where their recuperative powers have been feeble over their last four games in this situation as evidenced by their 0-4 ATS mark. These clubs have split this season in terms of straight up and ATS wins, but the last time they met in Detroit, February of last year, the Pistons claimed a 114-101 decision as 1½-point home favorites. They do it again tonight.

Rockets (47-21 SU, 39-29 ATS) At Pelicans (27-41 SU, 32-34-2 ATS)
  • New Orleans is 5-1 ATS in their last six after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • New Orleans is 4-1 ATS in their last five Friday games.
  • New Orleans is 35-17 ATS in their last 52 games as a home underdog of 5.0-10.5.
  • New Orleans is 20-7 ATS in their last 27 home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of greater than .600.
  • Houston is 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games.
  • Houston is 2-7 ATS in their last nine games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5.
  • Houston is 1-5 ATS in their last six games after scoring more than 125 points in their previous game.
  • Houston is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following an ATS win.

The Pelicans appear to be in a good spot to keep this one close, and Nene Hilario, the big backup man in the middle for Houston, will be sitting this one out. That should give the Pelicans some room to roam down low when starter Clint Capela gets a breather. Let’s grab what the NBA odds makers are giving us and back the home dog here.
