By the Numbers is a daily NBA column featuring Swinger’s top selections according to historical trends and game time matchups. Let’s review the top picks for Sunday’s slate and cash in our NBA picks.

Nets (15-57 SU, 33-37-2 ATS) vs. Hawks (37-35 SU, 33-39 ATS)

* Atlanta is 0-4 ATS in their last four games vs. a team with a winning percentage below .400.

* Atlanta is 1-8 ATS in their last nine games as a favorite.

* Atlanta is 8-21 ATS in their last 29 home games.

* Atlanta is  0-5 ATS in their last five home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

* Brooklyn is 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss.

* Brooklyn is  7-1 ATS in their last eight after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

* Brooklyn is 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5.

* Brooklyn is 6-2 ATS in their last eight after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

Don't look now but the team with the worst record in basketball is suddenly cashing for all those backing them in their NBA picks. That's right, the lowly Brooklyn Nets have come alive with ATS covers in eight of their last 11 contests. Meanwhile, the playoff-bound Atlanta Hawks are sputtering down the stretch, covering the NBA odds in just five of their last 17 games. Factor in the absence of Atlanta's leading scorer Paul Millsap and we can make a definite case for the Nets as road pups this afternoon.

Pelicans (30-42 SU, 35-35-2 ATS) vs. Nuggets (35-37 SU, 39-31-2 ATS)

* Denver is 5-1 ATS in their last six Sunday games.

* Denver is 5-1 ATS in their last six games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

* Denver is 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5.

* Denver is 7-1 ATS in their last eight after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

* New Orleans is 0-4 ATS in their last four games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5.

* New Orleans is 1-4 ATS in their last five road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

The status of New Orleans' superstar DeMarcus Cousins, and whether or not he will suit up after injuring his ankle in the team's 117-107 loss to the Rockets on Friday night, is unclear as of this writing. But we do know that even if Boogie does come to play he won't be at full throttle. In addition, Denver is a tough team to keep pace with unless you have a stopper down low to curb their tempo. These teams have met only once this season with the Nuggets claiming a 107-102 victory down on the Bayou as 1 ½ point road dogs back in October. Let's lay the lumber and back them in the Mile High City.
