By the Numbers is a daily NBA column featuring Swinger’s top selections according to historical trends and game time matchups. Let’s review the top picks for Wednesday’s slate and cash in our NBA picks

Pacers (36-34 SU, 32-37-1 ATS) vs. Celtics (45-26 36-33-2 ATS)
  • Boston is 5-2 ATS in their last seven after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

  • Boston is 4-0 ATS in their last four home games.

  • Boston is 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a home favorite

  • Boston is 2-0 ATS versus Indiana this season

  • Indiana is 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a straight up win.

  • Indiana is 2-7 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS win.

  • Indiana is 0-4 ATS in their last four road games.

  • Indiana is 1-5 ATS in their last six after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

The Pacers have failed to cash in their last four road contests, including their 116-91 thrashing at the hands of the Raptors on Sunday in Toronto. Of course, they did rebound the following night with a 107-100 victory over the Jazz and covered 2 ½ point home dogs for all who backed them in their NBA picks. But now they have to take on one of the best teams in the East that has won and covered their last four at home. In addition, the Celtics have defeated the Pacers and covered the spread in their pair of meetings this season, both of which were held in Indiana. Now they get the Pacers at home where a double digit win is in the offing.

Pistons (34-37 SU, 34-37 ATS) vs. Bulls (33-38 SU, 35-36 ATS)
  • Chicago is 2-9 ATS in their last 11 Wednesday games.

  • Chicago is 5-11 ATS in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400.

  • Chicago is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

  • Chicago is 5-13 ATS in their last 18 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

  • Detroit is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up loss.

  • Detroit is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss.

  • Detroit is 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite.

  • Detroit is 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite of 0.5-4.5.

Perhaps the best defeat the Pistons could have suffered came last night at the hands of the woeful Brooklyn Nets. Detroit was installed as five-point road dogs by the NBA odds makers and fell 98-96, which now has them losing and failing to cover in four of their last five. I say that loss was a good defeat for selfish reasons as it will serve as a wake-up call when they battle the Bulls tonight who also dropped a two-point decision on Tuesday night with a 122-120 loss to the Raptors. Detroit has cashed in eight of their last 11 meetings with Chicago and is poised to do so again tonight.
