By the Numbers is a daily column featuring Swinger’s top selections according to historical trends and game time matchups. Let’s review the top picks for Thursday evening and cash in our NBA picks.

Hornets (24-32 SU, 23-31 ATS) vs. Pistons (27-30 SU, 27-30 ATS)
  • Detroit is 5-0 ATS in their last five games as a favorite.

  • Detroit is 5-0 ATS in their last five home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400.

  • Detroit is 5-1 ATS in their last six home games.

  • Detroit is 16-7 ATS in their last 23 games as a home favorite of 0.5-4.5.

  • Charlotte is 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up loss.

  • Charlotte is 0-6 ATS in their last six games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

  • Charlotte is 1-7 ATS in their last eight games as an underdog of 0.5-4.5.

  • Charlotte is 7-16-2 ATS in their last 25 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

The Hornets will get back at it again tonight without the services of center Cody Zeller (quad) and his 10.8 PPG as well as his 6.5 rebounds per game. Charlotte is 0-6 ATS in the month of February against teams with a losing record and Detroit fits that bill. However, it should be noted that the Pistons own a respectable 17-11 straight up and 16-12 ATS record when playing in front of their home crowd. The Pistons have covered the NBA odds in seven of their last 10 contests while the shame-spiraling Hornets are 2-10-1 ATS over their last 13.

Clippers (35-21, 29-27 ATS) vs. Warriors (47-9 SU, 28-26 ATS)
  • Golden State is 16-5 ATS in their last 21 Thursday games.

  • Golden State is 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite.

  • Golden State is 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games as a home favorite of 11.0 or greater.

  • Golden State is 36-14-1 ATS in their last 51 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

  • Golden State is 6-0 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record the second half of the season.

  • Golden State is 5-1 ATS after holding opponents to 90 points or less.

  • Los Angeles is 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games as a sizeable road dog.

  • Los Angeles is Los Angeles is 9-19 ATS in their last 28 games as a road underdog of 11.0 or greater.

I can appreciate the chagrin of those punters who have blindly backed the Warriors in their NBA picks this season in light of the team’s pedestrian 28-26 ATS mark this season. However, since January 2nd, Golden State has been on the warpath, amassing a 15-3 straight up record and covering in a whopping 14 of those contests. In other words, when the Warriors win – they cover. And finally, GSW is 5-0 straight up and 3-1-1 ATS against the Clips when playing at the Oracle Arena.
