Tonight's NBA Odds have the Blazers as -7 ½ home favorites, with a total of only 201. The Suns are fighting for their playoff lives and they may be doing it short-staffed once again.
Suns About Out of the Fight
Last night was a rough game for the Suns’ playoff hopes, as they lost badly to the Thunder. This moved them four games back of the 8th spot in the West with only eight games to go, and with the Pelicans now in front of them as well, it’s going to be very hard for the Suns to make that ground up. They have to hope the Thunder start to lose down the stretch, or that they go on a hot streak to end the season.
That’s going to be very tough as they play a Blazers team that is also fighting for playoff positioning. Portland is hanging onto a home game to start the playoffs, and if they lose tonight they might fall outside of they coveted top four in the West.
Not only are they playing a hungry Blazers team, but after making his return last night from a badly sprained ankle, Brandon Knight looks like he might miss tonight’s game off the back to back. This will give the Suns one less guard to attack the Blazer big men, but either way his status goes tonight, the spread seems like a bad play tonight. Instead I am looking at the NBA odds total of 201, which seems very low, despite the Suns being in a mini scoring slump.
The Sharp Pick
Phoenix has been cashing the under with great regularity recently, and anyone who has caught onto the trend has been making some nice cash. However I am not one of them. My only loss last night was believing that the Suns could score more than 97 points on the Thunder, however tonight against the Blazers, I think the sportsbooks have downgraded the total enough to where the over could be the play.
The over has cashed in eight of the last ten games for the Blazers, and the over is also 6-0 in their last six games as favorites between -5 and -10. The over is also 5-2 in the Blazers last seven games at home, and it’s 4-1 in their last five games as favorites. Even while the Suns have cashed the under in 21 of their last 29 games, they should have enough left in the tank tonight to score into the 100s. Even though the Suns are only 7-10 cashing the over in their 17 games this season off a back to back, but they are 2-2 in their last four in that scenario, and I think on the road tonight they’ll give up a ton of points. The over is also 3-2 in the Suns last five road games, so take the over tonight at 201 and add it to your NBA picks.
