We got rocked on Saturday night’s NBA Picks, losing both and slipping back to 3-4 on the year. However, Sunday’s short slate has a pair of intriguing night games, and I am back to release my best bets for the Sunday night slate!

Wolves vs. Thunder

The Thunder posted a bad loss on the road on Saturday, only scoring 87 points in a loss to the Jazz. The defensive nature of the game didn’t come as a surprise, but with a roster full of All Stars, the Jazz used tough defense and didn’t turn the ball over and led basically the entire game.

The Thunder are back in action on Sunday against the Wolves, and the NBA Odds have Minnesota as a +4 underdog on the road, despite coming in rested. The Wolves just beat the Jazz two nights ago at home, and while there isn’t a direct correlation to my thoughts on this, but it does look like the Wolves could get another win tonight.

It’s going to take both of these teams time to gel together, but for tonight, the lack of chemistry for both teams makes this a game to attack the total of 211. So far, the sharps are starting to move the total down some, and with the defensive stoppers on both teams, we could see a Sunday evening defensive showdown.

The under is 3-0-1 in these two teams’ last four games against one anther, and the Thunder have cashed the under in their first two games. That can be expected for the Thunder. They brought in a ton of offensive talent, and the sportsbooks are going to play off of that. However, the Thunder defense is still really good, and coming off the back to back, I can see them buckling down to slow down the plethora of offensive options on Minnesota.

The Wolves under Tom Thibodeau are going to get better defensively as time goes on and they get their rotations in order. I think that could start tonight, so add the under to your NBA Picks.

 Pelicans vs. Lakers

After the total of this one opened up at 218 points, the number has flown up to 222 ½ in the late game of Sunday evening. Both of these teams had low-scoring first games of the season, and then in their second game the scores and pace exploded.

The latter is what I expect from the Lakers and Pelicans this season, and it’s definitely what I expect from them tonight. Lonzo Ball had an epic second game of his career after getting locked up by Patrick Beverley, and I think he is going to be a handle for Jrue Holiday tonight.

On top of that, the Lakers’ frontcourt is going to be no match for Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins. These two bigs should combine for 45-50 points in this one, because Brook Lopez and Julius Randle are no match defensively.

That should make this one an offensive showdown, and I am following the line movement and taking the over. So far this young season, the Lakers are leading the league in pace at 112.8 possessions per 48 minutes, and the Pelicans are playing with a pace of higher than 101. If shots are falling, this game should be in the 120s for both teams.
