Sunday NBA Picks of the Day

Since there are only three games on the schedule this evening, the NBA odds are going to be hard to exploit. Let's see if we can come up with a couple winners regardless.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Memphis Grizzlies

It's the first meeting of the season between these teams. Oddsmakers have listed the Grizzlies as 4.5-point favorites, with the O/U at either 191 or 191.5.

Memphis has found it hard to get any kind of consistency going throughout the season, and the past couple of weeks haven't been any different.

The Grizzlies have alternated wins and losses over their previous nine games. In their four losses during that span (Houston, Chicago, Denver and San Antonio) they lost by a combined 14 points, so they've been competitive in each and every contest.

We'll see if Memphis can build off a recent 104-99 home victory over Phoenix. For the year, the Grizzlies are just 8-12 SU at the FedEx Forum, while going 7-13 against the spread.

The Hawks enter off the heels of two straight home wins, first over Indiana (97-87) and then Houston (83-80).

It hasn't been easy without Al Horford out there contributing on both ends of the floor, but Atlanta's trying to make do with what they have. For now they've been starting Pero Antic, with veteran Elton Brand also getting more minutes in the frontcourt.

But when it comes to making our NBA picks, we feel the right side to take tonight is Memphis. Zach Randolph has been a man possessed this season and should have his way with Atlanta's makeshift interior. We look for Randolph and the Grizzlies to do enough to overcome a Hawks team that's lost three of their last four road contests both SU and ATS.

NBAPick: Grizzlies -4.5

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. San Antonio Spurs

Our second and final selection comes in San Antonio's home matchup with Kevin Love and the Timbewolves.

More was expected out of Minnesota this season, considering both Love and Ricky Rubio are fully healthy, something we had all been waiting patiently to see again. The Timberwolves have certainly had their great moments, but their even 18-18 SU record leaves a lot to be desired. That's just not going to cut it in the competitive Western Conference.

Minnesota will take a 7-11 SU road mark into tonight's encounter, but they been profitable against the spread, going 11-7 against the spread in those games.

The Spurs are on another nice run, having won three straight and six of their last seven. The only blemish came in a disappointing 101-105 home loss to the Knicks a couple weeks back.

If we had to take a side here, we'd go with the Spurs to cover the six points, but we like the look of the OVER a lot more.

Both teams rank in the top ten in offensive efficiency. San Antonio is third in the NBA, as they've averaged 107.8 points per 100 possessions. Minnesota is eighth on the list at 105.6 points per 100 possessions. The Timberwolves are also ranked second in the league in PACE, which measures the number of offensive possessions a team uses per game.

Just look at the recent numbers and you can see why we're taking the OVER. Minnesota is averaging 116.6 points per game over their last five (allowing 103.6 PPG in that span), while San Antonio hs put up 110.4 points per game. Take the OVER with your sports picks tonight.

NBA Pick: OVER 211.5
