The (51-9 SU) Spurs will have plenty to prove, when they travel to the Big Easy to face the (22-36 SU) New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie Center. Let's study the NBA odds.

San Antonio Spurs vs. New Orleans Pelicans
The (51-9 SU) Spurs will have plenty to prove, when they travel to the Big Easy to face the (22-36 SU) New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie Center.  The game is scheduled for an 8:05 ET tip as televised by TNT.  Though San Antonio won the most recent meeting between these teams (113-97) in San Antonio, the Spurs have plenty to prove in this matchup.  New Orleans has won 4 of the last 6 meetings between these two, including all 3 at this site of late.  In addition, they have covered all 6 of those meetings.  Tonight, however, the tables figure to be turned.

At 23-36 SU, the Pelicans are 6 games behind the Rockets for the 8th and final playoff spot.  They would still have to pass 4 teams, including Denver, Sacramento, Utah and Houston to gain entry to the playoffs.  Coming off consecutive defeats, including a (100-95) loss at Houston last night, time is running out for New Orleans.  They have battled injuries the entire season.  Tonight, their best big man, Davis, who has averaged 24/13 with 8 double/doubles in the series, is questionable with a toe injury.

For the Spurs, a key ingredient would appear to be Kawhi Leonard, the reigning defensive player of the year.  The Spurs allow just 92.3 PPG (the best in the NBA by 5 PPG).  But in the recent 3 game stretch without an injured Leonard, they allow 110 PPG.  With Leonard back in the fold for the last 4 games, San Antonio has allowed just 86 PPG, including a (97-81) victory last night against the Detroit team, who entered on a 4-0 SU ATS run.  In short, with Leonard in the lineup, this team is every beat equal as Golden St.  An equally important component is big man, Aldridge, who was added this year from the Portland Trailblazers.  At last feeling more comfortable in the Spurs’ system, Aldridge has averaged 25/13 the last 2 games.

Final Analysis
The Spurs survived their annual rodeo road trip last month.  But after last night’s home game vs. Detroit, they are playing their 9th game out of 10 on the road.   It is, however, a positive role for them, as they are 32-15 ATS when favored by 6 or more points this year, including 13-6 ATS as road favorite of 6 or more.

I invite you to put the NBA odds in your favor and join me in my NBA pick on the San Antonio Spurs tonight.
