Anytime the Miami Heat matchup with the San Antonio Spurs we will have an entertaining basketball game. We are going to take a look at the total in that matchup as well as what should be a contest of a surprisingly fast pace when Utah travels to take on Phoenix.

San Antonio vs Miami

If any game gets your radar up it is this matchup. It is a hard game to gauge in some aspects considering that these two teams haven’t met since last November but I think we can anticipate a great defensive battle. San Antonio so far is averaging just 98.3 points per game and shooting just 43.8% overall. More surprising is the fact they have not attempted many shots from distance nor making them averaging 4.7 and 17.7 in those categories respectively. Still, on the defensive end, they have been solid allowing just 91 points per game. Miami has been putting up some good offensive numbers but tonight they will face a completely different monster in the Spurs. Although they’re averaging 91.3 attempts per game which ranks fourth in the NBA expect that to drop quite a bit tonight against a San Antonio team that doesn’t allow a lot of tempo.  There are some good trends that point to possibly a low number for a final with Miami last season going 28-21 under the total as an underdog, and 25-15 after a win. The books have this total low for reason.

Utah vs Phoenix

Phoenix pulled out a much-needed win versus Sacramento the other night after all the drama that is surrounding that organization. With Utah on tap for them tonight it is not surprising that odds makers have set a decently low number even though in their last matchup they ended up with a 106-101 final back in January. Statistically, Utah has picked up right where they left off last year as one of the best defensive teams in the league while Phoenix has done the same being one of the worst defensively. What has me believing they will be able to get over this total is the fact that I believe it’ll be a little bit more up-tempo considering Utah is on the second leg of a back to back. Last season Utah was 9-9 on their totals off of no rest but surprisingly they were 14-8 as an away favorite going over the total. Phoenix was a really solid 36-16 in conference games going over the total and 17-9 as a home underdog. Look for a more Phoenix-like tempo tonight and for Utah to put up plenty of points to get is over this total.
