The 76ers have won three out of their last four games and should come in with some confidence tonight versus the  Knicks. New York has won the last five contests versus Philadelphia, but the 76ers are playing a lot better basketball this season and I think they pick up the win tonight.

New York Knicks

New York has only won one game out of their last nine contests and simply have not been playing well this season. The fact that they are a small favorite I believe is way off as they are one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA. Currently, New York is allowing 108.9 points per game which make them 25th in the NBA along with ranking in the bottom third of the league in most defensive shooting percentage categories. On the other side of the ball, they have put a premium on getting up-tempo averaging 89.4 attempts per game which rank first in the NBA. Unfortunately, though, that has not turned into a lot of points as they rank in the middle of the league in scoring and are averaging just 44.4% from the floor which ranks them 21st in the league. As well, they’re having problems with point guard Derrick Rose and his future so it just seems like a lot of turmoil is going on with that organization and fading them seems to be the smarter play.

 Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia is playing much better than last year and statistically, is a better team defensively than New York. Although Philadelphia is allowing 105.9 points per game, they rank in the middle of the league in most defensive shooting percentage categories highlighted by allowing opponents to shoot just 49.2% on their two-point shots which rank them 11th in the league. On the other side of the ball, they have not been very good averaging just 99.2 points per game and shooting just 43.4% from the floor both of which rank them in the bottom five of all NBA teams. However, they are moving the ball well and playing unselfish basketball averaging 22.5 assists per game which rank 12th in the league. With rising star Joel Embid leading the way I like their chances to not only cover the small number but to win this game straight up. Hopefully, they will come in with a little bit of a chip on their shoulder considering they haven’t beaten New York in quite some time and that they have been made the underdog in this contest.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Philadelphia a +2 underdog across the board and for my NBA pick I will take the 76ers in this spot. I like for them to, at worst, take this came to the wire but most likely to win this game straight up.
