The Chicago Bulls have beaten the Philadelphia 76ers 12 times in a row. Today Philadelphia travels to Chicago to take on the Bulls once again and have been made a decent road underdog. Philadelphia has been playing some decent ball recently so can they keep this game interesting?

Philadelphia 76ers

Since the All-Star break Philadelphia has gone a lowly 5-10 but has been surprisingly competitive in most of their games notably losing by just two at Golden State. Although it makes sense for odds makers to come out making them the underdog in this spot I kind of like this Philadelphia team and believe they can stay close with Chicago that can struggle at times. On the season Philadelphia is averaging just 102.4 points per game which ranks them 24th in the league, they also rank in the bottom half of the league in most offensive statistics. Unlike last year though they are not at the very bottom and rank around 20th in most categories which is a step up considering there are 30 NBA teams. On the defensive side is where I like them tonight as Philadelphia surprisingly ranks 10th in opponent effective field-goal percentage, 11th allowing opponents to shoot just 35.4% from beyond the arc, and 13th allowing opponents just 50% on their two-point shooting. Expect them to keep this closer than odds makers anticipate.

Chicago Bulls

Like Philadelphia Chicago has been less than stellar since the break going just 6-9 since mid February. Considering that they have owned Philadelphia the past few seasons it does make sense for them to be the favorite of course, however because of their recent play I think fading them is the right way to go. As well, on the season their statistics across the board are poor on the defensive side, and miserable on the offensive side. Currently Chicago ranks 20th in the NBA defensively in opponent two point shooting percentage, and overall shooting percentage. Their defensive efficiency rating is not bad even though they rank 23rd in opponent field goals made per game. On the other side of the ball they have really struggled statistically ranking 29th in both three-point and two point shooting percentage and dead last in effective field-goal percentage. They are not having the season that they’d anticipated for sure and don’t look for them to cover the spread tonight.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Chicago a -6.5 favorite in this spot, which again as mentioned makes sense. For my NBA pick, though I will gladly take the points with a Philadelphia team that plays hard and will come in Chicago believing they can win this game.
