Portland Trailblazers (-7-) vs. Brooklyn Nets 7:35 ET
A review of the NBA standings this Monday, January 26th finds Brooklyn languishing for the season at 18-26 SU on the outside looking in at the playoff picture.  They will host a Portland team, who holds down the No. 3 spot in the West with a record of 32-13 SU.  Like every Western team knows, it is imperative to get these victories against the lower echelon teams of the Eastern Conference. It is a major reason why the West now stands 154-83 SU against their Eastern counterparts this season.

Brooklyn is really struggling without PG Deron Williams.  The Nets return from a Western swing in which they lost the final two games by a count of 123-84 to the Clippers on Thursday and 108-73 to Utah on Saturday.  But, the home court has not been an ally for the Nets, who in the calendar year 2015 have gone 0-6 SU ATS at home, failing to score 100 points on any occasion, while averaging less than 90 PPG.  Against only Philadelphia have they lost any of those games by fewer than 8 points.  As a result, they enter on an overall slide of 2-10 SU, 3-9 ATS.   This is a team who has struggled offensively all season, averaging just 95 PPG.  When stepping up to play superior teams on their home court, Brooklyn has gone just 1-7 ATS as home dog.

Normally, this is a spot that would offer concern to back the Blazers.  They are traveling 3 time zones from west to east for a Mondaygame.  Note, however, that New Jersey is in the same travel situation, having faced Utah Saturday night.  Late last week, it appeared that the Blazers’ superior interior talent, Aldrich, would miss considerable time with hand surgery.  But, the big man played through the injury Saturday night, leading the Blazers to a 103-96 home court win vs. Washington.  With Portland vying to retain a Top 4 seed in the West (and home court advantage), Aldrich realizes the importance of playing each game.  While Brooklyn has struggled on their home court, Portland has played well on the road at 12-8 SU.  The Blazers have also achieved their goal of dominating the East with a record of 18-3 SU.  It would clearly be helpful if Batum made post for the Blazers.  But, Portland has such a dominant edge in the backcourt with Lillard and Matthews that it may not matter.

Among the most dominant pointspread trends in the NBA odds this season, is the fact that single digit road chalk now stands 177-77 ATS an over 60% pointspread proposition.
