While the masses flock to try and beat the spreads for tonight's huge NBA slate, we're here to help guide you through some potential total plays. Which sports picks do we like most tonight?

Charlotte Hornets vs. Indiana Pacers
A lot is on the line when the Pacers and Hornets do battle in Indiana tonight. Both teams are still in the playoff hunt, so we know there's going to be more than enough intensity to go around.

The Pacers haven't been doing themselves any favors whatsoever, as their recent play has been stinking up the joint. They've lost two in a row, three of four, and have gone 2-9 over their last 11 games overall. That's not exactly what we call rising to the occasion, especially when your playoff hopes are on the line.

Thing is, it's not like the Hornets have been playing any better. Sure, they may have picked up a victory their last time out, but they're still just 3-7 over their previous 10 games overall. They're ahead of Indiana in the standings, but only by a half game, which leaves them a game and a half back of the last playoff spot. As you can see, this is a huge game for both teams.

That's the main reason we are predicting a pretty low-scoring game here. These two teams have gotten most of their success through their defensive play, so why should we expect that to change tonight? Neither of these squads have been consistently good when it comes to putting the ball in the basket either.

In short, we simply feel as if this number is too low. Both of these teams can bring it defensively, and in what should be a playoff-like playing atmopshere, we think the UNDER will come through.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. L.A. Lakers
We've learned not to go anywhere near the Lakers when considering against the spread picks. It's worked out very nicely lately, as we were able to take advantage when the Pelicans went into Los Angeles and beat up on Byron Scott's crew.

Tonight the Lakers will once again be at home, only this time against an even better team in the Trail Blazers. Naturally, the NBA odds are very much in Portland's favor, with most sportsbooks posting a line of 10.5 points. The total is what we're interested, however, and that number can be locked in at 203 as of now.

The Trail Blazers have been on somewhat of a downward spiral of late, as they've gone just 4-6 over their last 10 games. It's a dog eat dog world in the Western Conference, but Portland still remains locked into the fourth spot in the standings. If the regular season ended today, the Trail Blazers would be taking on the Los Angeles Clippers (with home-court advantage) in the first round of the playoffs.

As for the Lakers, they're now 20-54 on the year and have been an easy team to fade for months. In full-on tank mode, Los Angeles is perfectly fine with dropping games on a regular basis, and with Portland eager to get back on track, we'd recommend siding with them if you had to take a side on the spread.

For total purposes though, we actually like the UNDER once again. Some may associated the Trail Blazers with playing at a high tempo, but they've actually slowed down their pace in recent weeks. Meanwhile, we don't trust the Lakers to score regularly on Portland, especially up against a stout frontcourt defensive duo of LaMarcus Aldridge and Robin Lopez. With that train of thought in mind, we are going to be recommending that readers add the UNDER to their collection of NBA picks for a loaded Friday night of basketball.
