The San Antonio Spurs have won their last three games but things get a little tough for them as they travel to Memphis to take on the veteran Grizzlies. Oddsmakers have made San Antonio a small favorite but is there any value in backing the home team?

San Antonio Spurs

With Golden State looking like the best team in the Western Conference and playing at an elite level over the last couple of weeks people have forgotten a little bit about how good San Antonio is this season. The Spurs have slowly but surely started to ramp up their defense and currently are allowing their opponents just 98.9 points per game which rank second in the NBA. Along with that, they rank second, third, and fourth and opponent three-point, two-point, and overall shooting percentage.

On the other side of the ball, they have been very efficient while going at a controlled pace shooting 47.9% from the floor ranking them second in the NBA. They also rank first shooting 40.8% from distance. If any team can beat Golden State it looks like San Antonio has the best matchups to do so. However, with all that being said and even with me being a big proponent of Greg Popovich I think this is a tough spot for them taking on a very tough defensive team in the Grizzlies.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis has won three out of the last four games and currently is right behind San Antonio ranking third in defensive scoring allowing 99.8 points per game. Their statistics across the board matchup very well with the Spurs on the defensive side of the ball with Memphis ranking third, fourth, and fifth in the NBA in opponent overall, two-point, and three-point shooting percentages.

Offensively though they are a far cry from San Antonio as they shoot just 43.2% overall which ranks them dead last in the NBA. Their efficiency ratings as well are not very good with them ranking 26th and 29th in shooting efficiency and effective field goal percentage. Despite those poor numbers I believe Memphis is a tough matchup for San Antonio, especially at home. With this being their first time facing each other this year look for a maximum effort from the Grizzlies to take this game to the wire.

San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies

Oddsmakers have made Memphis a +2.5 underdog in the spot and for my NBA pick, I will take them plus the points. This is a well-coached team with a good veteran core that knows San Antonio very well. At worst expect them to take this game to the buzzer.
