The Grizzlies are off to quite the amazing start, but it's not going to be a walk in the park in Toronto this evening. Find out why we still think Memphis is the right play with our sports picks tonight.
Both the Raptors and Grizzlies are playing great basketball to open up the season, and they'll collide full steam ahead in Toronto tonight.
Current NBA odds have Toronto barely favored by 2.5 points on their home floor. We see a total of 193.5 on the board for now, but 194 is popping up here and there as well.
There's not much to complain about if you're a Raptors fan, or if you've been consistently backing them with your NBA picks.
Toronto has raced out to a 8-2 record, with the team's two losses on the road to the Heat and at home to the Bulls. Notable wins so far have come over the likes of Atlanta and Washington, but overall the Raptors haven't had the most difficult schedule out there. This will be a great test tonight. The Toronto Raptors have had ample time to rest up for tonight's game, as they haven't been in action since Saturday's dominant home win over Utah in which they won 111-93.
Things were close in the first half, but Toronto pulled away after the break and never looked back. The Raptors shot an impressive 51.2 percent from the field and got double-digit scoring out of five different players. DeMar DeRozan led the way with 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, with Jonas Valanciunas had a great game with 17 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in the win.
Toronto has shown good balance so far, ranking in the top ten in both points scored and points allowed. They're ninth in the NBA by allowing 96.4 PPG, while the Raptors are scoring 106.0 points a contest, which ranks them fifth in the league.
The Grizzlies know a thing or two about hot starts. They've been outstanding through the first few weeks of the season, winning 10 of their first 11 games. Their sole loss came in Milwaukee of all places, but that's the crazy NBA for you.
Already this season Memphis has topped the likes of Houston, New Orleans and Phoenix, but the Grizzlies' most impressive performance was that latest victory over the Rockets. They cruised from the start on their way to a big 119-93 win.
Memphis shot 53.5 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three and 90.9 percent from the charity stripe. The game was out of hand by the end of the first half, so the Grizzlies were able to get their bench more involved. Everyone besides Tayshaun Prince got on the court in the blowout victory.
Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol had 23 points and 13 rebounds combined, while Mike Conley, Courtney Lee, Jon Leuer, Kosta Koufos, Beno Udrih and Quincy Pondexter all reaching double figures. It was about as complete of an effort as you're going to see from a team, and is even more impressive when you consider how strong Houston had looked prior. The Grizzlies have been getting it done through their defensive effort, which is no surprise. They're surrendering a league-low 91.5 points per contest, and will look to keep that intensity up in Toronto.
Though we've got two similar records here, we firmly believe the Grizzlies are the better overall team, and we foresee them proving that to be true tonight in a tough road game.
Armed with the NBA's best defense, Memphis has learned how to grind out wins. The duo of Randolph and Gasol continues to dominate inside, and the grittiness continues out on the perimeter with Conley, Allen and Lee. We really like the balance and competitive fire shown by this team.
The Raptors have a good home-court advantage, but in the end we're taking the better team in our eyes. Getting points in icing on the cake here, so we'll add the Grizzlies to our NBA picks for a busy Wednesday night.
