Last month after Miami beat Houston it set the Heat on a long winning streak. However, Miami comes into Houston today limping a little bit after losing two in a row. Can James Harden and company win this game by double digits and continue Miami’s woes?

Miami Heat

Over the past month, Miami has been one of the hottest teams in basketball despite the fact they’ve lost their last two games. This could be a tough matchup for them considering the fact they’re playing on the road in Houston, a very tough team at home that can put up a lot of points in a hurry. Oddsmakers are well aware of this and have come out making Miami almost a double-digit underdog and I think they are right. The issue is not on the defensive side where Miami allows just 102.4 points per game which rank them sixth in the NBA, but it is on the other side of the ball where they can really struggle.

Currently, Miami ranks 27th in the NBA and shooting efficiency and are averaging just 38.6 field goals made per game which ranks them 21st. They have been decent inside the interior averaging 44.8 points in the paint which should help them stay somewhat competitive. In the end, though I don’t think they will have enough to keep up with the Houston team that is very difficult to beat on their home court.

Houston Rockets

After starting off the season looking like one of the contenders in the Western Conference Houston has cooled off a little bit over these past couple weeks. Still, under head coach Mike D’Antoni this is an extremely dangerous offense that averages 114.5 points per game and ranks second in the league in some of the most important offensive categories like to point shooting percentage and shooting efficiency.

I have not been shy though in criticizing this team considering their lack of play on the defensive side, but it should be mentioned that Houston actually defends the perimeter decently allowing opponents just 35.1% from beyond the arc. This is a good revenge spot for Houston to come in and handle a Miami team that is struggling a little bit right now. Although oddsmakers have made this line quite high don’t be shy to pull the trigger on Houston that they win this game by double digits.

Miami Heat vs Houston Rockets

Oddsmakers have come out making Houston a -9.5 favorite in the spot and for my NBA pick, I will back them minus the points. Although I’m a bit of a fan of Eric Spoelstra and Miami, and the way they play defense, I just find this situation a bit difficult for them. Expect Houston to win this game by around 15 points.
