Free NBA Pick: Raptors -5 ½Best Line Offered: at Bookmaker
  • Detroit is 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up loss.
  • Detroit is 2-13 ATS in the second half of the season.
  • Detroit is 1-6 ATS in their last seven games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
  • Toronto is 4-0 ATS in their last four road games.
  • Toronto is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as a road favorite of 5.0-10.5.
  • Toronto is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.

The Raptors have been putting a little daylight between them and their nearest rivals, the Boston Celtics, to end the season as the top seed in the East. Toronto has won 12 of 13 straight up and covered the NBA odds in all but three of those contests. They are now two games ahead of the Celtics after blowing out the Hawks in Atlanta by the score of 106-90 last night. The Raptors have now scored over 100 points in 16 straight games and are ranked 4th in the league in scoring. In addition to a prolific offense, their defense checks in as the 5th ranked club in the league allowing just 103.1 points per game. Shooting guard DeMar DeRozan leads the club in scoring and steals, averaging 23.7 PPG and 1.2 SPG respectively.

The Pistons are rapidly fading from playoff contention as they sit on the bubble, 4 ½ games removed from the eighth spot, currently being held by Miami. Detroit has gone 2-9 straight up over their last 11 and has been the bane of bettors backing them in their NBA picks by going a dismal 1-11 ATS over their last 12 contests. The Pistons return to Motown after a three-game road trip in which they not surprisingly dropped all three and failed to cover in each and every game. Detroit is averaging 102.9 PPG on the season (24th) but over their last seven games has averaged just 98.8 points per game while their defense, ranked 9th on the season, has surrendered over 109 points per contests during that time.

I realize many bettors eschew backing teams on the second leg of back-to-back games, particularly when they are laying points on the road. That’s the situation in which Toronto finds itself but this is not only an endorsement of Toronto but a fast fade against Detroit. I’m not sure how anyone tosses good money after bad with a team like Detroit that has clearly called it a day and is already making vacation plans. The Raps want the No. 1 seed in the East and are in the homestretch with only nine games left on their regular season slate. They are currently 3-1 straight up and against the spread in their last four games in Detroit and should win this one by double-digits so we gladly lay the 5 ½ points being dealt by all the major online sportsbooks as of this writing.
