Let’s take a look at three good props for NBA betting purposes in Game 3 noting that the Atlanta Hawks face an 0-2 series hole and need to find kind of miracle to get back in this series as the next two games are in Cleveland.
Atlanta Hawks Total Team Points: Over/Under 90
Let’s face it: the Atlanta Hawks have been laboring for quite some time now. Not only did they tail off down the stretch of the season, they struggled with a couple of mediocre teams in the first two rounds and now their offense is gasping for air in the conference final. They have scored 89 and 82 points in the first two games, and that was with Kyle Korver in the lineup. He’s critical not just because he’s an All-Star but he’s a consistent three-point threat that spaces the floor. Now it’ll be that much easier for the Cavs to defense the Hawks.
Beyond that, we’ve got DeMarre Carroll, who is hobbling around on one leg. Look for the Cavs to have an easy time with the Hawks and Atlanta to stay under the team total.
NBA Props Pick: Under 90
Total Points & Assists Made By Jeff Teague: Over/Under 24.5
One of the few areas where the Hawks do have an edge on the court is at the point guard position. The Cavs are not particularly strong at defending quick, penetrating point guards, so Teague should have a big game. He played fairly lousy last game but so did the entire Hawks unit as a team. He still had 12 points and six assists. I’m looking for him to be closer to his playoff averages, which are 15.9 points and 7.1 assists. When you look at how he’s played recently, he’s gone over this set total of 24.5 in four of his last six games. The Hawks need him more than ever, so take a shot with him and the over for your NBA pick.
NBA Props Pick: Over 24.5
Total Three-Point Shots Made In Game 3: Over 18.5 +110/ Under 18.5 -145
In this spot, I think it’s wise to go with the law of averages. In Game 1, we saw J.R. Smith go bananas when he hit eight-of-12 from three-point land, yet the two teams combined for a total of 14. In Game 2, the two teams hoisted a whopping 56 three-pointers, yet we still only saw a total of 18. In Game 3, we know that Korver is now out and Kent Bazemore will get the start in his place. Korver had been averaging 2.0 three-pointers per game this postseason and a total of 2.8 per game these playoffs. When you remove him from the equation and put in Bazemore, who averages just 0.6 threes per game, that’s another step down.
When you add it up, the NBA odds under seems to be the right play here. They didn’t hit the over without Korver out there and now the Hawks are a fading bunch and are without him, so it seems like going over would be unlikely.
