Two of the best point guards meet up when Russell Westbrook and theThunder travel to take on Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers. Oddsmakers have made Portland a small favorite in this spot but is there any value in backing the Oklahoma City?

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City has pulled off four wins in a row dating back to just before the All-Star break. A lot of that has to do of course with Mr. triple-double Russell Westbrook, but also to the fact those games were all at home. This could be a little bit of a tougher spot having to travel to Portland which over the last few seasons has been a tough place for teams to play. Oklahoma City is averaging 106.2 points per game which rank 12th in the NBA. Most of their offensive statistics outside of that though rank outside of the top half of the league as they rank 18th and 21st in shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage respectively, along with a horrible 32.7% from distance which ranks 29th.

Defensively they have been also subpar but not bad considering the tempo they push ranking eighth and 10th in opponent shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage respectively. The Thunder was able to pull off a six-point win back in early February but they dropped their one contest at Portland back in December by almost 20. I don’t expect them to lose by that much tonight but don’t expect them to come out with the win either.

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland is coming back from a four-game road trip dating back to just before the All-Star break and winning just three of their last 10 games overall. Despite their recent struggles they have had some really tough losses when looking at their schedule and after getting some rest I like for them to get back home and get back on the winning track. They definitely are not playing up to expectations but statistically, they are not bad ranking in the middle of the league or better in most offensive statistics highlighted by averaging 107.4 points per game which rank ninth in the NBA.

Because of their tempo, they have been giving up way too many points ranking in the bottom five in the league, but statistically, their defensive percentages are not bad allowing opponents just 48.7% of their two-point shots and 45.4% on their overall shooting ranking them fifth and 14th in the league respectively. Look for them to give a maximum effort tonight back at home where they play better basketball.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Portland Trail Blazers

Oddsmakers have made Portland a -1.5 favorite and for my NBA pick, I will take them in this spot. They have not won many games recently but this is still a good Portland team in my opinion and they should handle business tonight.
