Portland and New Orleans have not had the seasons that they had anticipated. Tonight they meet up in New Orleans and the Pelicans have been made a small home favorite. Can Trail Blazers keep rolling against the new look Pelicans?

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland has won five out of the last six games and look to keep rolling tonight trying to get back into the playoff mix. Although they lost their last time here, I like how they matchup with New Orleans and they might be on the cusp of putting a lot of wins together. Although they been playing less than stellar defense they are starting to improve on that end and currently rank 14th in the NBA allowing opponents to shoot 45.5% from the floor. What I really like about their defensive percentages though is the fact that they allow opponents to shoot just 48.8% of their two-point shots which should be a point of contention tonight.

Offensively Portland is also starting to pick things up and getting to the pace they like averaging 86.5 attempts for the game which ranks them 12th while knocking down 39.8 of those per contest which ranks them sixth. As well, they can get red-hot from beyond the arc shooting 37% from distance. It seems to me there are starting to roll and build some confidence along with the fact that Damian Lillard is having a great year. Forget about the number and look for Portland to win this game straight up.

New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans is coming off a big win in Charlotte where they nipped the Hornets in overtime. Still, despite their recent acquisition of DeMarcus Cousins they just don’t seem to be flowing right now going just 3-6 since the All-Star break. Although it makes sense for them to be the favorite at home I don’t like how they matchup with Portland and offensively they’ve really struggled at times this year ranking 26th and 27th in the NBA in effective field-goal percentage and shooting efficiency respectively.

Defensively they have been decent on the season ranking in the top 10 in most categories, but their overall dynamic lacks direction right now in my opinion. I have no doubt that Alvin Gentry will turn things around but it might take until next season to do so. Currently, New Orleans is making just 38.4 field goals per game and shooting 44.4% from the floor ranking them 21st and 24th in the NBA respectively. Although they are more talented in the interior I think it’ll be the guard play from Portland that hands them another loss.

Portland Trail Blazers vs New Orleans Pelicans

Oddsmakers have Portland as a +2.5 underdog but for my NBA pick, I will take them on the plus money line. Look for the Trailblazers and their strong perimeter play to get things done in New Orleans.

Free NBA Pick: Portland Trail Blazers +150

Best Line Offred: at 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3067576, "sportsbooksIds":[19,123,1096,1389,1275], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1 }[/]
