Here's our solid NBA pick for tonight, as the Houston Rockets invade San Antonio for this matchup of divisional rivals, who are each vying for a seed of 4 or higher in the upcoming 2015 NBA playoffs.

Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs (-6) 8:35 ET
Currently, there are 5 teams (Houston, Memphis, Portland, LA Clippers and San Antonio), who are locked into the No.2 thru No. 6 seed in the Western Conference playoff queue.  But, only 1 ½ games separates these 5 in the standings, as they battle for no worse than 1st Round home court advantage.  Currently, Houston leads San Antonio by 1 ½ games. The Rockets are 6.5 point underdogs in tonight's NBA odds.  That puts the defending champions, San Antonio Spurs, in the role of hunter.  It is a challenge they will be eager to overcome.  These teams have met twice in the regular season to date with each winning at home … Houston by a score of 98-81 and San Antonio on this floor by a score of 110-106.

Aided by the return of Dwight Howard and led by the scoring of James Harden, the Rockets enter tonight on runs of 10-2 SU, 7-1 SU, and 3-0 SU.  In the last 3 games, the Houston Rockets have averaged 113 PPG with victories against OKC, Dallas and Sacramento.  Leading the way in those contests has been James Harden, who has averaged 39 PPG, including 55% shooting from the field and 62% shooting from the arc.  Houston is the No. 2 road team in the NBA with a 25-14 SU mark.  But, they are just 8-9 ATS in tonight’s role as road dog.  We will place our NBA pick knowing that the Rockets will be hard-pressed to stop the hard-charging, freight train that is the San Antonio Spurs.

This bureau recorded a victory with San Antonio last night in their 113-88 win against an OKC team, who has run out of gas! The Spurs led wire to wire, after opening up a commanding 1st quarter lead.  In the first half of the season, San Antonio was derailed by injuries to key performers, Parker and Leonard.  Since shortly after the All-Star break, however, San Antonio has gone 18-3 SU, 17-4 ATS.  Included in that surge has been an 8-0 SU ATS run of late, which they have defeated opponents by an average score of 108-88.  Every victory has come by 12 or more points.  The surge has been led by Leonard, who has averaged 22 PPG in his last 6 games.  In the post-break surge, the Spurs have gone 8-0 ATS, as home favorite, to -10.

When deciding on the best NBA picks for today, we must continue to back the defending champions in the role of hunter on yet another monumental 2nd half surge!  The 88 PPG defense of late has lifted the Spurs to the 2nd best point allowance in the NBA at 96.8 PPG.  It is defense over offense as the Spurs continue their late-season surge.
