The Clippers own the longest SU winning streak in the NBA going into Friday night, as they look for another one in Salt Lake City this evening. The NBA Odds have the Clippers as -9 road favorites, with a total of 205 ½.
We’re going streaking
Much like the spread in this one, the Clippers own a nine game winning streak going into Utah tonight, and by all accounts they should get #10. However Utah does play solid at home, and even though they are going to be outmatched tonight, they could still get a backdoor cover some how against the shaky Clippers defense.
That is why the total of 205 ½ looks like a much better play. The Clippers’ recent winning streak has brought back the offensive explosion we were seeing at the beginning of the season from LA. Before Chris Paul got hurt, the Clippers were one of, if not the best offensive team in the NBA in multiple categories. They have slowly worked their way back to that team. Half of their recent winning streak has come against playoff teams from either conference, including wins against the Warriors and the Thunder, two potential playoff matchups. Most of this has been done without the services of JJ Redick and missing Jamal Crawford some.
With those wins has also come a lot of scoring, and you can bet that the Utah defense will be giving up some points tonight. This is probably my favorite play of the evening, and I am putting several units on the over for this game. 205 ½ is a steal for how well the Clippers are playing on offense, and I’m seeing a final score of around 108-99.
The Sharp Pick
In their last five games, the Clippers have been really heating up, averaging 115 points per game. That of course included the infamous blowout win over the Lakers where the Clippers dropped 142 points, however they still were scoring large totals in the other four games.
The Jazz defense isn’t going to be much of a resistance force against the mighty Clipper army. LA is so deep after they picked up Danny Granger and Glen Davis. Now their second unit is more talented than some team’s first units, and the Jazz might be included into that conversation by the end of the season.
However being at home should really help the Jazz, and that is one of the other reasons I love the over tonight. Utah’s scoring isn’t great, but it should improve some at home tonight. The Clippers’ defense is not great despite some of the preconceived notions about them, and all Utah will have to do is get into the high 90s the way the Clippers’ offense is rolling right now.
The over has cashed in five of the last six road games for the Clippers, but even more interesting is the fact that the over has cashed in six of the last seven Jazz home games. With LA’s road defense giving up almost 102 points per game, I love the over at 205 ½.
My Pick: OVER 205 ½
